Job summary

We are recruiting Health Care Support Workers to join our team at the In Patient Unit to contribute to the provision of a high standard of holistic care to patients, families and carers as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Your main responsibilities will be to assist with patients personal care, helping to move, position and mobilise patients and observing their general condition in line with the care plan, reporting any changes as required. You will assist with patients nutritional needs and update the patient record system.

To be considered for this post you will need to have an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or an equivalent qualification and previous experience in a health care setting. You should also be aware of the physical and emotional needs of patients suffering from a life-limiting illness and those of their relatives and carers and be kind and caring in your approach. Good team work and the ability to work a full range of shifts including earlies and lates, nights, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis is required.

Salary:£22,410 - £24,005 per annum (pro rata for part time), plus 30% & 60% enhancements for unsocial hours.

Fixed term contract for 5 months commencing November 2023.

This year we are celebrating providing 40 years of service to our patients in eastern Hertfordshire and continuing in our vision of providing outstanding palliative care for all.

Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

· To assist with patients’ personal care and all activities of daily living.

· To observe patients’ general condition in line with the care plan and report changes.

· To take and record clinical observations, performing simple dressings, collecting specimens and report all findings.

· To assist with day to day administration and other duties related to patient care.

· To help, move, position and mobilise patients using the principles of safe practice.

· To assist with the nutritional needs of the patient including food preparation, observing food safety regulations.

· To understand the role of volunteers and work with them in the provision of care for patients and relatives.

· To provide support and basic information to patients, families and carers.

· To carry out clerical and housekeeping duties as required.

· To keep up to date with new developments in nursing care and treatment and be responsible for and maintain own education in Nursing care.

· To participate regularly in staff support and staff meetings. Attending at least 2 staff meetings in any one year.

· Attend mandatory training.

· Be aware of infection control and follow all procedures.

· Be aware of Care Quality Commission Standards.

· To undertake any other duties which reasonably fall within the scope of the role.
