We have an exciting opportunity for Primary Care Nurse to join our Primary Care team at  HMP Kirkham, a category D Prison located in Kirkham, Preston. 

We are looking for someone to support and coordinate a small team by managing planning, overseeing coordination and supporting junior team members.    The prison has it s own Healthcare department where you will be based and the primary care team consists of a team of 10 HMP Kirkham is a capacity of 700 males. 
  • Onsite parking 
  • Staff gym access 
  • Onsite farm shop and caf 
  • Training development opportunities 

Hours: 

The role is a part time role working 16 hours per week Monday - Sunday, there are various shifts covering: 
  • Monday - Friday 37.5 
  • Various shifts to cover between  8am-7pm
  • Occasional weekends on rotation as required

Salary: 

This position is part time, youll receive an annual salary between £33,232 - £40,211, depending on experience

Main duties of the job

As a Mental Health Nurse, your responsibilities will vary. You will

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options
  • Undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed
  • Assess patients health needs using an evidence based framework and be able to risk assess use sound clinical knowledge
  • You will work with individuals providing advice, support and information and manage a case load of patients.
  • Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference
  • You will monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects liaising with prescribers as required.
  • Inspire excellence by forging strong links with our partners and stakeholders
  • Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence based care
  • Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi-disciplinary teams and supporting each other to do a great job.

Qualifications required: 

  • Qualified Mental Health Nurse -  NMC registration
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Experience of working with patients, face to face, who have complex mental health conditions
  • Experience of psychosocial interventions, group work and awareness of substance misuse

Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
