We have an exciting opportunity for a Early Days in Custody Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Bullingdon, a category B Prison located in Bicester, Oxford.

HMP Bullingdon is a male remand prison that has a capacity for 1,152 the offers 24 hours healthcare and there is an inpatient unit on-site. 

Hours

37.5 hours -  Day shifts will vary from 7.30-7.30, 10-10pm, 7.30-5.30pm. This will include working, every other weekend, bank holidays, night shifts. This can include working in all areas of the prison but mainly reception areas. 

Salary

This position is full time, youll receive an annual salary up to £52,507 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Early Days in Custody Nurse , your responsibilities will vary. You will

  • Ensuring patients have medical plans of care, assessing patients and carrying out relevant clinical investigations during their arrival, along with arranging follow-up appointments for them whilst offering advice and giving information.
  • You must be able to clinically evaluate and ensure the safe transfer of patients to acute hospitals if needed, as well as ensuring that plans of care are understood by the patient and the prison as appropriate. You will be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills in clinical decision making.
  • As part of your role you will support in undertaking audits and governance. 
  • You will provide healthcare to patients on site in the healthcare unit in the prison. This will include some emergency care such as suturing, providing emergency response to undertaking dressings and performing a primary care function.

Qualifications required 

  • Registered nurse Adult 
  • Current professional qualification (NMC or HCPC)
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Understanding of clinical governance, health and safety, QOF, EBP and national standards
  • Understanding of audit and datix

Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
