Job summary

Are you an experienced Optometrist looking for your next challenge? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our professional and experienced multidisciplinary team at our Practice Plus Group Hospital, Shepton Mallet. You will be a highly valued member of our team bringing your expertise and skills to our ophthalmology service. We offer high quality treatment, deliver excellent clinical care As part of our professional, friendly and compassionate team you will do everything you can to ensure the patients treatment is of the highest standard. The ophthalmology department is a small, forward looking, friendly department, equipped with the latest ophthalmic equipment including IOL Master 700, Heidelberg OCT and latest edition Humphrey Visual Field Analyser. Medical notes are recorded on Medisoft/Medisite and all ophthalmic machines are integrated into the computer network. Would you like to join us from outside the local area? Main duties of the job

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

  • work within the surgical outpatient clinics and the perioperative area contributing to the effective running of all clinics
  • ensure completion of accurate information and assessment within the patient electronic record and Medisoft
  • have the ability to manage themselves, and their workload, both individually and as a team member
  • support the development of the nurse led pre-admission clinics, using appropriate information systems and ensuring compliance with best practice, within an appropriate regulatory frameworks and professional guidance
  • provide information/data to the Consultant Ophthalmologists and the Ophthalmology Lead according to patient needs, audit and quality requirements
  • assist in any investigation into any concern or complaint raised and provide a written response to the Consultant Ophthalmologist or Lead Ophthalmology Nurse if requested. Be able to suggest and take corrective action to prevent further re-occurrence if applicable

About us

We are looking for enthusiastic Optometrists of all levels to join our Team. Those with basic training, Optometrists with higher qualifications and Optometrists keen to undertake further qualifications in specialist areas whilst working with us at Practice Plus Group Shepton Mallet. Specialist areas offered at the unit include Cataract Surgery Pathways, Glaucoma Assessment and Treatment Pathways, and we are currently developing Age Related Macular Degeneration Pathways.You will be GOC registered. We would also like to consider candidates with Professional Certificate in Glaucoma to see glaucoma follow up patients, and those with Professional Certificate in Medical Retina to run AMD clinics.   In turn we will support you to help you grow in your role and take your career in the direction you want to go.
