Prison Medicine is a very rewarding career, which offers a more varied day to day workload, with greater opportunities for flexible working and professional development, than community General Practice. You will have a full induction at HMP Brixton and ongoing support from the Regional Medical Lead for the London region.

You will provide primary care to patients within GP clinics - clinically assessing, diagnosing and treating patients, similar to that in the community but with the added benefit of being part of a fully integrated Healthcare department. There is a multidisciplinary team made up on mental health, substance misuse, primary care and pharmacy professionals; you will provide a highly specialist resource of knowledge and skills to the healthcare team in the prison. There will be an active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities, as we strive to give the best possible care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

We recognise training and development is key, therefore we provide a training portal to facilitate your needs as well as have an in-depth induction for all staff whether you have experience of working in prisons or not. You will gain insight into Mental Health and Substance Misuse, as well as access to a variety of training opportunities.
