Job summary

Have you ever thought about working in prison healthcare?

Health in Justice deliver Healthcare in a Prison setting comparable with a Community GP Practice. There are Primary care and Mental health nursing staff, Healthcare assistants, recovery workers and administrators all on site. We are looking for a talented General Practitioner to join our team at HMP Isle of Wight working 2 sessions a week (although we can be flexible with differing requests).

If you are new to offender health, we will create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this exciting role. If you have not previously engaged with secure environments, your transferable communication skills will help and you may need training and development to work confidently in some unfamiliar areas of practice.

You will be offered Substance Misuse and other offender health specific courses if needed. You may work in one main site alongside other sites and option to work remotely to keep a variety of skill mix and practice in your portfolio, which may range across security categories from high to low/open and populations from young offenders to elderly care for both male and female patients as you are able. We offer a competitive annual salary plus payment of MDU/MPS subscription and CPD days. Furthermore, should you wish there may be opportunities for extra shifts.

Main duties of the job

Skills & Experience To be successful in this role, you will have: Experience of working as a General Practitioner Willingness to provide mentoring and support to all other Clinicians where appropriate Evidence of continuing professional development Knowledge of methods of developing clinical quality assurance and evidence based practice Evidence of up to date knowledge and skills Evidence of ability to maintain and monitor high standards of care Evidence of audit activities Ability to communicate with people of all capabilities and attitudes Qualifications MBChB Inclusion in the GMC Register On a CCG Medical Performance List RCGP pt 1 (or willing to undertake) MBChB or MBBS qualified, youll be registered with the GMC and on a PCT Medical Performers List. About us

HMP Isle of Wight was opened in April 2009; it was formed by the clustering of three former establishments HMP Parkhurst, HMP Albany and HMP Camp Hill. HMP Isle of Wight's present role is a category B male training prison. The prison holds approximately 1100 prisoners on two sites with a central administration. The site houses a dedicated multidisciplinary team around the GP including, ACP, Mental Health Team, Nursing and Physiotherapy there is also an on-site pharmacy and dispensary.

Practice Plus Group is a specialist provider of NHS services into prison healthcare across over 45 different prisons, young offenders and immigration removal centres.
