We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Technician to work in our fast-paced medical laboratories in South Essex. Pathology First is a partnership between SYNLAB and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, supporting Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals, Southend Hospital and more than 200 GP practices. It provides services to a population of 750,000 in the East of England and performs around 56,000 tests every day.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for candidates who have passion for patient care, ideally with a background in healthcare setting who is able to work in a fast pace environment.

  • To be able to rotate through all areas of the Laboratories as required (Dependent on experience and training), to perform all designated duties in accordance with local working practices, to maintain high personal standards and conform to Health and Safety regulations.
  • To be able to undertake and complete Automate and Specimen reception duties according to SOPs.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ3, or equivalent, level of knowledge, a minimum requirement of 3 GCSEs to include English and Maths and at least one science subjects.
  • Good degree of accuracy & numeracy.
  • High degree of dexterity required.

Desirable

  • Science A Levels or a degree entry qualification.
  • ECDL or equivalent knowledge.

Experience

Essential

  • Working knowledge of the receipt and preparation of samples for biomedical testing.
  • Knowledge of computer applications in use within Pathology, particularly LIMS, Quality Management System and Procurement system.
  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment either Specimen Reception or Biomedical.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of levels of staff within the laboratory and user organisations.
  • Good developed interpersonal and team working abilities.
  • Adept at majority of specimen receipt and preparation procedures.
  • Ability to manage time to best advantage.
  • Ability to adapt efficiently to change.
  • Able to plan activities within area of work.
  • Able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time.
