Job summary

This is an outstanding opportunity for the new CEO. Previous experience in the care sector is essential and you must have highly developed interpersonal skills and lead with authenticity and compassion.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time for the KHCIC and for the new CEO to lead its future development. Your values must be aligned with ours, and you will be committed and have a proven track record of working at a strategic level as part of a senior management team resulting in service improvement.

Kernow Health CIC (KHCIC) is a GP owned and led not-for-profit primary care organisation; all the money we generate through service contracts is invested back into providing patient care.

The Chief Executive will represent KHCIC at system level and ensure that we are an effective Partner Organisation.

Relationships

The post-holder will work closely within the Board, Executive Team, Senior Management Team, Clinical Teams, Independent Contractors, Stakeholders and Partners.

You will be key in developing and shaping the organisation culture and infrastructure, building on current values and ethos the Chief Executive will ensure we improve staff engagement and performance and meet our contractual obligations and target delivery for each service. He/she will engage with general practice and wider system partners to develop the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

The CEO has overall responsibility for:

  • Developing and delivering our corporate business strategy and implementing key objectives to create the best organisational culture, systems, and processes and to deliver high quality clinical services to patients and ultimately ensure KHCIC continued success.
  • To lead the executive team and delegate clear responsibilities to executive directors and hold them to account, and as the accountable officer report to and attend the Board.
  • To ensure proactive stakeholder engagement and promote partnership working within the local healthcare system with our members, partners, NHS stakeholders, agencies, and other bodies as appropriate.
  • Be visible and listen and engage with system partners, general practices and KHCIC staff at all levels.
  • Work with the Board to set the strategic direction of KHCIC and develop strengthened governance arrangements.
  • Ensure that the financial management of KHCIC is robust and complies with all statutory requirements and standards and delivers sustainable financial performance year-on-year.
  • Lead a cohesive, effective executive management team to achieve our strategy and objectives.
  • Lead the development of a highly engaged workforce where staff feel engaged, able to speak up, be heard and supported.

  • Lead on developing a new corporate business strategy for KHCIC which sets out the vision and culture we aspire to achieve.

Corporate and Clinical Governance

  • Act as the Accountable Officer for KHCIC within its governance framework.
  • Ensure the board receives the advice and information necessary to perform its duties, including legal requirements in relation to all key aspects of clinical activities, financial assets, people, I.T. and intellectual property.
  • Ensure there is an effective Board Assurance Framework (BAF) underpinned by an associated risk register and risk management framework, in which patient safety is paramount and through which standards of patient care are evaluated and improved.
  • Ensure there are appropriate and effective systems in place across services to achieve compliance with the requirements of clinical governance and of safe standards of patient care, and that all standards set by statutory regulators and other relevant bodies are implemented by the executive and senior management teams.

Operational Performance

  • Monitor, evaluate, and manage organisational performance in accordance with strategic priorities, standards and values.
  • Ensure KHCIC is compliant with regulator, NHS and Government guidance and requirements.
  • Ensure the provision of clear, timely and accurate information, intelligence, and advise to the board to enable informed decision making and robust evaluation of performance. Draw the Boards attention to relevant risks and matter for consideration.
