Main duties of the job

Report and investigate clinical incidents and risks, completing all documentation and suggesting potential solutions. Support the development of clinical cardiothoracic competencies in line with clinical needs, policy recommendations, risk assessments and evidence-based guidelines. Take on additional responsibilities and extend the scope of practice in accordance with patient, clinical and service needs e.g. BLS Trainer/Link Practitioner. Take charge of a shift, co-ordinating and delivering work activities and leading clinical colleagues and students, in accordance with skill mix. Deputise for Clinical Leaders during their absence.

You will have extensive experience in managing patients cardiothoracic patients, be accustomed to being the Nurse in Charge of the shift and have experience in mentoring. You must have a good knowledge of cardiothoracic and will have a minimum of 2 years' experience in working in the field of cardiothoracic. You'll be accountable for leading, motivating, educating and supervising the nursing and multidisciplinary team. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and you will be able to provide clinical leadership, act as a mentor and role model, manage complex patient care, and lead the unit in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse. You will support individuals and teams to deliver safe, high quality and effective patient care that is responsive to the needs of our patients and their families. Along the way, you'll build strong relationships with consultants, hospital senior leaders, a wide range of healthcare professionals and, of course, patients. As a Cardiothoracic Senior Staff Nurse you will:
