Job summary

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care has a vacancy in the South Derbyshire area for a NHS Audiologist. You will be covering clinics at our Scrivens branches in Ilkeston and Swadlincote. 

Scrivens Ltd is looking for a NHS Adult Audiologist who is RCCP or HCPC registered with a full UK driving licence to provide hearing clinics for adults including appointments for testing, diagnosing and offering hearing aid choice where appropriate.

You will be required to undertake audiology procedures efficiently and effectively for both the public and private sectors; adhering to best practice. You would need to be able to maintain a high level of professionalism and technical standard of work, complying with relevant Codes of Practice. We work with Starkey, Bernafon & Oticon and provide the latest in technology in hearing aids. We also utilise the latest equipment in Audiology and are committed to having fixed equipment in dedicated locations.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide Diagnostic Audiology and Rehabilitation services and, where appropriate, to dispense NHS hearing aids to Adults presenting or referred to Scrivens with an identifiable hearing loss
  • To promote best clinical practice
  • To be competent in the management of customer information
  • To be competent in all areas of dispensing NHS hearing aids and NHS patient rehabilitation and aftercare.
  • To operate in line with national, local and company policies, procedures and current legislation at all times including understanding fully the local CCG contractual requirements of NHS supply.
  • To liaise with other healthcare professionals where necessary including referring to other Audiologists.

The role will have expectations measured by:

a. Personal productivity to agreed performance standards to ensure that all customers are provided with the best advice and solution

b. Meeting forecasts and budgets for the supply of NHS hearing systems

c. Compliance with professional and clinical standards

d. Service user satisfaction levels (including customers and GPs)

e. Monitoring of NHS contract performance areas such as timely hearing aid fitting, provision of rehabilitation advice and completion of aftercare

f. Working with Branch Managers to ensure all NHS income streams are realised.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To work under the direction and control of your Line Manager to the required standards

At all times to comply with:

  • RCCP or HCPC standards as appropriate
  • BSA recommended procedures (BSA procedure guide)
  • BAA guidelines
  • NICE Guidelines
  • Company guidelines (Company Handbook)
  • Company administration procedures
  • All other company procedures and guidelines informed to you throughout your employment

To demonstrate an ability to reflect on own practice and to identify own strengths and development needs

To be responsible for own professional actions and to recognise own professional boundaries and when to seek advice from others

To liaise with branch managers to ensure the NHS hearing business is successful and to motivate and train branch staff to:

a) Book hearing screening checks

b) Deal with all NHS enquiries

c) Handle all NHS user and service call enquiries / requests

d) Maintain an effective appointment diary

e) Complete any administration required

To undertake NHS consultations with customers at Scrivens branches, medical centres or any other premises as required

To deal with any concerns or complaints sensitively and in a timely manner to avoid escalation

To attend relevant training and development courses in order to maintain and expand skills and knowledge appropriate to your scope of practice whilst ensuring compliance with CPD requirements

To be responsible for maintaining your CPD records in a form acceptable to the HCPC / RCCP

Where required, to supervise the work of, and offer guidance and advice to, other Scrivens personnel on all aspects of hearing aid dispensing and branch work

To be professionally dressed at all times

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assess customers' hearing and provide best advice in accordance with:
  • Company and BSA recommended procedures
  • BAA guidelines
  • Relevant HCPC / RCCP Standards
  • Any other pertinent standards that may be introduced from time to time
  • To carry out a case history
  • To conduct otoscopy
  • To carry out routine Puretone Air Conduction and Bone Conduction Audiometry including masking as required
  • To take aural impressions and depending on the degree and type of hearing loss and dexterity, select ear moulds
  • To select and programme / fit appropriate hearing instruments including the use of REM fitting.
  • To provide a full structured customer-centred aftercare programme
  • To use appropriate outcome measures, both subjective and objective, to ensure hearing instruments are providing maximum benefit and to use evidence based practice to support this
  • To instruct and advise customers on hearing aid use
  • To be responsible for daily checking of test equipment
  • To follow best practice principles with regard to infection control in the workplace
  • To commit to CPD to ensure that you keep up to date with the latest developments in audiology
  • To keep accurate records and treatment plans
