Job summary

Due to the onset of new Gene Therapy (GT) trials we are looking for a dynamic Research Nurse to work alongside the existing team. We collaborate with pharmaceutical companies, whose focus will be the development of therapies for inherited bleeding disorders. Gene therapy treatment has the potential to deliver a one-time treatment for Haemophilia and a range of other bleeding disorders.

Main duties of the job

The main objective for this Gene therapy Research Nurse role is to assist in the management of the gene therapy research portfolio of the Haemophilia Gene Therapy studies at the National Haemophilia Database, ensuring that the trials run smoothly for the participants recruited.

The post-holder will work with the gene therapy cohort of Haemophilia patients with the Principal Investigator, Gene Therapy Hub and Haemophilia Centres, ensuring each gene therapy study and information requirements are captured efficiently.

The NHD is a register of people in the UK with all types of bleeding disorders. Its purpose is to study the complete national cohort of patients with these conditions and improve the care of people with bleeding disorders.

Responsibilities:

Communication / Planning and Organisational Skills

To liaise with the CRO, study investigators and co-ordinators to obtain a good line of communication at all times.

To have the appropriate administrative processes in place to ensure, with the investigators, that adverse event incidents and forms are completed, reported and followed up to resolution as the study protocol and regulations require.

To communicate with the Gene Therapy Hubs, sponsors, pharmaceutical companies, internal and external study personnel and outside agencies in a professional manner maintaining an efficient flow of information to sustain smooth running of the study, whilst maintaining patient confidentiality.

To demonstrate excellent communication skills at all levels, verbal, written and in presentation form.

Quality

To ensure timely and efficient procedures for collection, electronic in put and verification of all patient data, chasing of missing or incomplete data and raising queries as appropriate.

To monitor data quality and to set up quality control procedures.

Actively contribute to the Quality Assurance System and Audit Programmes.

Work within the guidelines of confidentiality and data protection polices.

To demonstrate a commitment to research based/best practice and clinical excellence care.

Develop a good understanding of clinical governance initiatives within the Trust and ensure the appropriate application of clinical incident reporting.

Service delivery & improvement

Develop relevant case report forms.

Collate and interpret patient data from multiple gene therapy hubs sites.

Ensure detailed and accurate patient records are maintained by the whole research team.

Assist in continued maintenance of comprehensive databases for gene therapy.

Implement and maintain databases of patient cohorts for gene therapy groups.

Participates in departmental and Trust committees/meetings as appropriate.

Demonstrate a proactive, creative and problem-solving approach to the planning and organisation of the service and make a positive contribution to effective change management.

Access and collate information from a variety of sources and utilise it to inform service delivery.

Adopt a flexible approach to patterns of work dictated by both trial deadlines, staffing levels and patient needs.

Undertake to share and promote clinical excellence at a local and national level.
