Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist - Learning Disabilities & Autism

The closing date is 16 April 2026

Job summary

Make a meaningful difference to the lives of adults with learning disabilities by delivering compassionate, highquality community physiotherapy.

In this role, you will provide holistic physiotherapy services across Wiltshire, supporting individuals with multiple and profound learning disabilities, alongside associated emotional, mental health needs, and behaviours that challenge.

You will practice with a high level of autonomy while being an integral member of a multidisciplinary, integrated team focused on personcentred care. Working in close partnership with service users, carers, families, and wider professional networks, you will help shape positive outcomes and coordinated care pathways. The role also includes supervising and supporting junior staff and deputising for the Lead Physiotherapist when required, offering an opportunity to influence both clinical practice and service development.

Main duties of the job

  • Work autonomously within an integrated multidisciplinary team, taking professional and legal responsibility for all aspects of clinical practice.
  • Manage a specialist caseload of adults with learning disabilities, many with profound and multiple needs, complex health conditions, mental health difficulties, and behaviours that challenge, using a personcentred, evidencebased approach.
  • Undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessments using advanced clinical reasoning, taking account of social, emotional, and environmental factors.
  • Develop and deliver individualised, highquality physiotherapy and physical management programmes, agreeing goals and outcome measures with service users and/or carers.
  • Produce accessible physiotherapy programmes and resources (e.g. pictorial or photographic materials) to support understanding and engagement for service users and carers.

About us

You will join a friendly, supportive team where multidisciplinary working is at the heart of what we do. Colleagues describe us as collaborative, compassionate and always willing to share knowledge and ideas. You'll have the autonomy to manage your caseload, with the support of the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist to help you continue developing your specialist skills.

As a Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist, you'll benefit from:

  • NHS Agenda for Change Band 6 salary with an NHS pension
  • Membership of My Reward Hub for discounts, cashback and voucher offers
  • Access to your wages as you earn them
  • Online and in person wellbeing support including mental health services, activity challenges, financial wellbeing tools, coaching and counselling
  • Access to e-learning, bespoke career pathways and professional development through our Outstanding Learning Enterprise team
  • An open, just culture with ringfenced innovation funding each year
  • The pride of working for an organisation where most rated services are Good or Outstanding
