Main duties of the job

Skilled in assessing and identifying communication difficulties in children using standardised tools, informal observation, and collaborative input from families and school staff. Careful consideration is given to auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic aspects of communication to form a clear, holistic understanding.

Bringing specialist knowledge and well-developed perceptual skills to support children with a range of needs, including those with disabilities, to inform thoughtful clinical decisions.

Therapy is guided by evidence-based strategies aimed at enhancing communication, with personalised care plans shaped by assessment findings and outcome evaluations.

Clear, professional reports are provided for families, educators, and healthcare professionals, including those for education, health and care plans.

Committed to working closely with others, offering informed advice, sharing complex information sensitively, and adapting practice to suit each childs unique background and needs, while encouraging joint working to support the best outcomes in therapy.

Job responsibilities

As a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist, you'll be part of our valued team based in the SLT department at The Saltway Centre, Swindon.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Health Professions Council Licence to Practice
  • Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
  • Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to preschool and school-aged children
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and audit
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals relevant to the client group
  • Knowledge of the standards of record keeping
  • Ability to adapt own style including observation, listening and empathy skills
  • Negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Excellent diplomacy skills
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical and reflection skills
  • Demonstrates ability to be a good team member including working with other agencies Prioritisation skills
  • Well-developed concentration skills
  • Excellent presentation skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
  • Experience working with children with complex speech, language and communication difficulties
