Our Childrens Community Services team are committed to providing effective care to children, young people, and families. You will play a crucial role in providing specialist assessment, diagnosis, and clinical management for children, including those with neurodevelopment difficulties such as Autism, ADHD, physical/learning disabilities, Cerebral Palsy and delayed development. You will take part in the child protection on-call rota.

The Child Health Department at is a friendly team of consultants and associate specialists and GPwERs supported by our fantastic administration team. We are co-located with multi-disciplinary teams such as the Safeguarding and Looked After Childrens Nursing Teams, Community Childrens Nursing Team, School Nursing Team and Speech and Language Therapists.

We take pride in our role as a training department, educating and mentoring the next generation of Paediatric professionals. In BaNES you will contribute to teaching and supervising paediatric trainees from Severn Deanery at ST4-8 helping their development and growth in their professional careers.

Main duties of the job

As a Consultant Community Paediatrician your days will be varied and fulfilling and may include:

  • Delivering paediatric clinics face to face and telephone clinics.
  • Assessing children with a range of concerns that are affecting their development or educational potential.
  • Completing reports and administration within timescales
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary assessment and management for initial assessments and follow-ups.
  • Performing medical assessments of children referred by police or social care with safeguarding concerns.
  • Seeing Looked After Children, to collate information and complete forms within statutory time limits.
  • Contributing to child protection on call rota
  • Liaising with health professionals to ensure coordination of assessments.
  • Supervising, teaching and training other staff in childrens services.
  • Covering colleagues annual leave and short-term sickness.
  • Covering duty doctor tasks.
  • Contributing to audit and clinical governance programmes.
  • Actively assisting in formulating, implementing, and monitoring organisations objectives, service plans and developments with both internal and external agencies.

  • Full GMC Registration
  • GMC Specialist Registration
  • Membership of RCPCH
  • Level 3 training and experience in Safeguarding Children

  • Excellent paediatric clinical experience and skills
  • Leadership, teamworking and organisation skills

Desirable

  • CCT in Community Child Health
  • Formal training in Standardised Autism Assessments
  • Training in a standardised formal developmental assessments
  • Experience in the assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD
  • Experience of Child Protection assessments, Initial Health Assessments for Looked After Children, advising the LA regarding Special Educational Needs
  • An area of special interest eg neurodevelopmental paediatrics, safeguarding
  • Experience leading projects, audit and Quality Improvement
  • Experience in teaching and training
