Job summary
We are looking for a Consultant Dermatologist 33hrs with 4hrs Clinical Lead in Oldham to come a join us on a substantive basis. Ideally covering 10 PAs, consisting of clinics and surgery - but we would also consider less than full time availability.
As a consultant your days will be fulfilling and varied, you will work within a team of nurses and consultants and provide Clinical Expertise for the delivery of safe & efficient services and consult with our patients within Dermatology clinics and remotely.
About the Service
We provide consultation, advice and treatment from consultants, specialist GPs and specialist nurses for a wide range of dermatological problems (skin complaints).
If you have a skin complaint that needs more tests or to be treated by a specialist, we will offer a convenient appointment to you. Some of the tests may include blood tests and biopsies.
We offer a full range of dermatology-related specialist care services, including suspected cancer cases, from the Integrated Care Centre, bringing this closer to peoples homes.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post will include:
- Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standard of care
- To provide high quality care to all patients attending the Dermatology Service
- Keep patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) informed about their condition and involve them in the decision making of their treatment
- Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out from time to time by the General Medical Council (GMC) and comply with the GMCs guidance on Good Medical Practice as amended or substituted from time to time.
- Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the HCRG Care Group framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service. For example, additional leadership duties or tasks.
- Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines
- Consulting with patients and determining skin ailments, prescribing medication, undertaking skin therapy treatment, performing skin surgery.

Applicants will have previous experience working as a Clinical Lead with strong people management & leadership skills along with a clinical background working in Dermatology. Applicants must possess MRCP or equivalent, be fully registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practice. Applicants must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Dermatology or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT at time of interview.

- Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following.
- A Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Dermatology or within 6 months of CCT date
- Certificate of Eligibility Specialist Registration (CESR)
- Specialty Certificate Examination in Dermatology MRCP (Dermatology)
- Demonstrates clarity in written and spoken communication
- Good interpersonal skills, courteous to patients and staff always
- Enthusiastic team player
- Open and reflective
- Computer literate in office, internet applications and literature searches
- Experience of clinical audit
- Effective communication skills, enthusiasm, and approachability.
- Commitment to clinical governance.
- Flexible approach to work
- Demonstrate commitment and ability to teach and train clinical staff and medical and nursing students.
