Job responsibilities

We are currently recruiting a Trainee Forensic Psychologist to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Bury.

You will be joining our team on a full time, 40 hour per week basis working alongside our experienced Psychology department.

Cygnet Hospital Bury Hudson:

Cygnet Bury Hudson Hospital providesaccommodation, treatment and support for men who have been diagnosed with severe mental health and personality disorder needs. Our services provide a wide range of Medium and Low Secure (Forensic) including:

Two Medium Secure Wards Two Low Secure Wards Two Medium Secure Personality Disorder Wards

The Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity to join an established psychology team providing a clinical forensic psychological service to clients in a secure hospital setting.

Working across the adult services. This will be to input into medium secure Personality Disorder services.

Our aim is to provide you with guidance and supervision to become a HCPC Registered Forensic Psychologist.

This role will involve working as part of a Psychology team working closely with Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Social Workers and Health Care Support Workers.

You will be providing highly specialist psychological assessments, formulations to inform treatment planning; and individual and group therapy. Within the MDT setting you will be expected to offer psychological insight and knowledge, and advise non-psychology staff on psychological principles and understanding of behaviours displayed by service users. In addition, you will be expected to formulate and implement psychological treatment, interventions and management plans for individual clients relating to their diagnosis and risks.

The post-holder will have a key role in the development of others and of the service. You will also have involvement in audit, policy, service development and the assessment and interpretation of outcomes.

You will have:

  • Approved MSc on Forensic Psychology
  • Minimum one years experience of working within an adult forensic mental health setting or another forensic setting
  • 12-18 months experience as an AP or Trainee Psychologist
  • Must be enrolled and working towards a HCPC recognised qualification in (i.e. Stage 2, PG Dip, or a Doctorate route).Those who have recently been successful in securing a place on one of these routes are encouraged to apply including those seeking a paid placement opportunity.
