We have an opportunity for a full-time Specialty Doctor to shape services at Cygnet Sherwood House while being fully supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist and first-class multidisciplinary team.

Cygnet Sherwood House (rated CQC Outstanding) is our 30-bed specialist high dependency inpatient rehabilitation service for men dedicated to providing a high quality environment for promoting long-term recovery.

Our facilities and multi-disciplinary treatment programme are designed to assist individuals with their return to community living. Those placed with us often come from multiple placement breakdowns, failed treatment programmes or are stepping down from secure settings.

Main duties of the job

Cygnet Sherwood House is located in Rainworth, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire with good local transport links to Mansfield, Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield.

We have plenty of community facilities nearby and also lots of places of interest including Sherwood Forest, home of Robin Hood. Within the service we have 30 en-suite bedrooms, 7 of which are located on the assessment corridor on the ground floor. These ground floor rooms can be used for those individuals with mobility issues and would find stairs difficult, but they can also be used for individuals who need a higher level of observation by the staff. Additionally, we have a gym, two gardens including an allotment, a multi-faith room and two therapy kitchens. Meals at Cygnet Sherwood House are served in the dining room and they run on a café system. There is a large variety of choice that caters for individual preferences and dietary requirements.

Our dedicated clinical team provide a multi-disciplinary input including occupational therapy, psychology, psychiatry and vocational training. However, we offer more than just specialists and treatments, we value the service users as individuals, help enhance their interests and abilities, encourage them to share their views and help them unlock their talents and aspirations.

Your role responsibilities

  • Provide high quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
  • Participate in weekly ward rounds & attend multidisciplinary meetings
  • Attend Care Programme Approach & Section 117 meetings & mental health review tribunals
  • Provide up-to-date clinical information at all meetings
  • Ensure that medical decisions are implemented as planned
  • Audit medical services & ensure compliance with GMC & other professional guidelines
  • Uphold policies & procedures and contribute to service governance & development
  • Take part in a 1 in 7 on call rota

We are looking for someone who is...

  • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
  • Experienced within a mental health setting
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledgeable of mental health legislation & codes of practice
  • An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement & ability to manage risk
  • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
  • Committed to continued professional development
  • Preferably approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent
