Job summary

Base: Cygnet Victoria House - Barton Street, Darlington, County Durham, DL1 2LN Cygnet Victoria House is a 26 bed mental health inpatient service for men. The service, split across two wards, provides a safe and stabilising environment for men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission. Main duties of the job

At Cygnet Healthcare, we have a strong occupational focus through support and direction from Clinical Leads and our Occupational Therapy Directors. We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction under the supervision of a more senior Occupational Therapist. An integral part of this role will be supervising others, with a focus on supporting student education within the team. This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

Salary:£29,544 (Increase to £31,865 following completion of preceptorship) Full Time Equivalent

Within this role, you will contribute to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy service at Victoria House, you will work under the supervision of a Specialist Occupational Therapist. You would support service users through the Occupational Therapy Pathway and Clinical Model of Care.

Cygnet Victoria House:

The ethos of our service is about assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we will support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

Our team works closely and collaboratively with service users, their families and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge. Our approach is recovery focused and supported by comprehensive multi-disciplinary teams, contributing to shorter lengths of stay.

You will promote the importance of enabling people to do the things they want, need or are expected to do to support them being well in life. Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 170 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.

Occupational Therapy Preceptorship & Induction:

We offer an Occupational Therapy 12 month preceptorship programme to support and consolidate core Occupational Therapy Skills.
