The post holder will be working on Kingswood ward, which is our 16-bed high dependency inpatient rehabilitation service for men. The service is delivered in a purpose-built therapeutic environment, where the focus is on maximising positive outcomes, recovery and reintegration into the community.

Main duties of the job

Cygnet Hospital Maidstone is our state-of-the-art, 63 bed mental health facility for adults situated in the Kent Medical Campus in Maidstone.

The hospital is split into four distinct wards, each offering specialist mental health services:

  • Roseacre Ward Highly Specialised Personality Disorder service for women
  • Kingswood Ward High Support Inpatient Rehabilitation (Level 2) service for men
  • Bearsted Ward Specialist PICU Service for Men
  • Saltwood Ward Male low secure ward
The hospital's services have been requested and agreed by local and regional NHS bodies to meet the urgent demand for specialist mental health services within Kent.The aim is to ensure that local people can be treated close to home and as near as possible to their friends and family.

Kingswood Ward provides a high level of therapeutic care and support that is underpinned by knowledge and practice of evidence-based interventions, delivered by a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team.

Our individualised and group treatment programmes have clearly defined goals and outcomes for our service users. Our recovery principles are built around hope, empowerment, wellness, personal responsibility, community focus and connectedness.

We aim to integrate the hospital into local and regional care pathways and community services, with the focus on care close to families and friends, lowest length of hospital stay, and reducing the chances of re-admission.

Your role responsibilities

  • Provide high quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
  • Participate in weekly ward rounds & attend multidisciplinary meetings
  • Attend Care Programme Approach & Section 117 meetings & mental health review tribunals
  • Provide up-to-date clinical information at all meetings
  • Ensure that medical decisions are implemented as planned
  • Audit medical services & ensure compliance with GMC & other professional guidelines
  • Uphold policies & procedures and contribute to service governance & development
  • Participate in the 1:5 On call rota

We are looking for someone who is...

  • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
  • Experienced within a mental health setting
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledgeable of mental health legislation & codes of practice
  • An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement & ability to manage risk
  • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
  • Committed to continued professional development
  • Preferably approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent

Our CESR programme

This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level and youll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties.

Youll also have an educational supervisor to review your progress and oversee your development and youll receive support with MRCPsych exams.
