As Resident Medical Officer, you'll play a crucial role providing on call cover for Cygnet Hospital Oldbury. This is our new state-of-the-art PICU & Acute hospital for women, due to open in mid-2024.
We're focused on length of stay and making sure individuals move as quickly and safely as possible from our services to the most appropriate and least restrictive environment for them.Individuals can step down through the pathways available within Cygnet services.
You'll be covering out of hours on call (5pm-9am and 9am-9am), working 3 days one week, and 4 days the next with access to Consultant advice.
On calls are completed from home but the post holder would be required to come into the service as needed, so the ability to travel is essential.
Main duties of the job
Cygnet Hospital Oldbury is our new state-of-the-art PICU & Acute hospital for women, in the West Midlands.The service will feature two wards. A 12 bed PICU ward and a 15 bed Acute ward.
Cygnet Hospital Oldbury will have a full multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and will support the acute needs of adults requiring rapid access to mental health services, including those who may need an intensive care environment.
The post holder will oversee patient admissions, patient assessments by taking Psychiatric History and Mental State examination, Risk assessments, Mental Health Assessments and Physical examinations (ECGs, Bloods) and patient reviews.

We are looking for someone who is...
- Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
- An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement, the ability to manage risk & know when to ask for help
- Preferably experienced in Psychiatry
- Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
- Committed to continued professional development
