Job summary

Main duties of the job

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction under the supervision of a more senior Occupational Therapist.

An integral part of this role will be supervising others, with a focus on supporting student education within the team.

Are you a Band 5 Occupational Therapist (Final year students due to register with HCPC also welcome)?

Would you like to explore a more rewarding career in mental health services?

The Cygnet Occupational Therapy Department recognise not all Occupational Therapists qualifying at present may have had the direct experience due to the national placement crisis. We offer a graded approach to caseload management, have robust supervision support and have our own preceptorship process for all newly qualified OTs to consolidate core skills.

This is an exciting time to join Cygnet Hospital Bierley as we are opening two brand new wards, one will be an acute service for Males and the other an acute service for Females. This position is for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to work on the Male Acute ward which is opening May 2023. The Male Acute ward will support up to 16 service users.

There is a second opportunity on Bronte Ward, our 15 bedded female low secure service, offering assessment, recovery based treatment and rehabilitation for women who have on-going and challenging mental health problems and may have a dual diagnosis

The ethos of our service will be about assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we will support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

Caseload: 16 service users

Responsible for:Contributing to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy department at Cygnet Bierley. Providing assessment and treatment of occupational needs, under the supervision of a senior OT. Promoting the importance of enabling people to do the things they want, need or are expected to do to support them being well in life.

Responsible to:Occupational Therapist (Band 7) clinical supervisor, Director of Occupational Therapy and Hospital Manager.

Hours:40 hours

Location:Male Acute Ward, Cygnet Bierley, Bierley Lane, Bradford, BD4 6AD.
