Main duties of the job

As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will have the opportunity to deliver an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group within a community rehabilitation and residential setting. You will work in close collaboration with other disciplines within the on-site multi-disciplinary team to ensure individuals receive truly bespoke input. Inter-disciplinary working is at the core of this services ethos; each discipline brings their expertise to the fold to support individuals to overcome challenges and to work towards successful more independent living. You will use your skills and knowledge to assess speech, language and communication needs and work in conjunction with the MDT to develop individualised intervention plans to optimise functional communication and independence. You will participate in visual discharge planning and adopt a humanistic approach. In addition to this, you will be able to share your clinical expertise with your colleagues through the delivery of training to promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment.

Gledholt, a nine-bedded enhanced community residential home providing outcome focused care for adults with learning disability accompanied with behaviour that may challenge including mental illness, co-morbid substance misuse or a forensic background

Gledholt Mews and Coach House, our service for adults with mental health needs or a personality disorder who have been able to progress through the hospital pathway and are looking at the next stage in their rehabilitation journey. What does the job involve?

As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will have the opportunity to deliver an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group within a community rehabilitation and residential setting. You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy and the onsite service manager.

  • We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:
  • Registration with the HCPC and RCSLT membership
  • Work experience or university placements undertaken in mental health and/or inpatient services
  • A strong desire to optimise the effectiveness of their clinical input though inter-disciplinary working
  • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning
  • Evidence of being a team player with a genuine desire to work help others through collaborative working
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Innovative, enthusiastic, motivated and passionate with high regard for professional boundaries
