Job summary

Occupational Therapist (band 6) - fixed term maternity cover (9-12 months) October 2022 start date. 

We are currently recruiting for a confident band 6 Occupational Therapist who is ready for a more rewarding clinical challenge working on 15 bed rehabilitation ward for men with mental illness and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). 

Base: Cygnet Hospital Wyke, Adarna ward, Blankney Grange, Huddersfield Rd, Wyke, Bradford BD12 8LR

Main duties of the job

Within this role you will provide specialist assessment, analysis and treatment of occupational dysfunction, enabling people to do the things they want, need or are expected to do to support them being well in life.

You will also support the learning of others through supervising, mentoring and coaching, and to lead in a specific area with some responsibility for service and team performance.

You will manage a case load of 15 service users with the support of an Occupational Therapy Assistant and two Activity Co-ordinators. You will be responsible for completing the occupational therapy process of assessment, intervention and documentation for your case load. This will include sensory assessments and interventions. Prior knowledge of sensory integration is desirable but not essential for this role.

You will provide leadership to promote the Occupational Therapy profession, through taking responsibility for service and team performance in a specific area. You will be responsible for supervising junior staff and contributing to student education.

This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

Service Line: Mental Health Adults (Rehab, PICU, Acute)

Site: Cygnet Hospital Wyke, Bradford,BD12 8LR

Summary of the site:

Cygnet Hospital Wyke is a large mental health service in Bradford. There are 3 wards within the hospital;

  • Adarna Ward Rehabilitation Service for men with Mental Illness and Autism Spectrum Disorder 15 beds
  • Bennu Ward Specialist PICU service for men 12 beds
  • Phoenix Ward Acute service for men 19 beds

Each ward has a full time Occupational Therapist and two activity co-ordinators. Adarna ward is also supported by an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Our environment includes a gym, onsite vocational activities, ADL kitchens, a sensory room and other therapeutic spaces.

The clinical focus on Adarna ward is the recovery of service users through meaningful engagement both within the service and in the local community. Our aim is to support individuals to live with their condition and to discharge them onto the least restrictive setting suitable for them. The multi-disciplinary team (MDT) work together with service users to provide holistic person-centred assessments and care plans.

Occupational Therapy Directorate

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.
