We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role.

Cygnet Hospital Wyke provides a comprehensive pathway of acute admissions services for men. Our team works closely and collaboratively with service users, their families and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge.

Main duties of the job

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction under the supervision of a more senior Occupational Therapist. An integral part of this role will be supervising others, with a focus on supporting student education within the team. 

This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

Your Role

Service Line:Mental Health Adults (PICU Service)

Summary of the site:

Bennu Ward is a 12 bed male PICU service that accepts emergency and crisis admissions. Referrals will come to us from all areas, including acute and prison services. The aim of Bennu Ward is to provide a short, rapid intervention to help service users regain a sense of control and order in their lives, so they can move to a less restrictive care setting or return home.

The service will provide expert, intensive, short-term, individualised care for men detained under the Mental Health Act. Service users will present with increased risks that require them to be assessed and treated in a PICU environment.

Cygnet Wyke is a site with 3 wards. We have a Regional Lead Occupational Therapist based at Wyke to support each OT.

Each ward has their own occupational therapist and 2 activity coordinators.

Occupational Therapy Directorate:

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists

Occupational Therapy Preceptorship & Induction:

We understand the pandemic has brought with it challenging times, and we recognise this may have had an impact on some of your placement experiences. We offer an Occupational Therapy 12 month preceptorship programme to support and consolidate core Occupational Therapy Skills.
