Job summary

Schoen Clinic York are looking for an experienced and qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse to join the team at an exciting time as our service grows to capacity, and we launch more investment into our newly refined outpatient service. We are ideally looking for a full time nurse to join us but would be open to discuss potential job sharing and part time opportunities. Receive a welcome bonus up to £2,500 when joining the team!

Main duties of the job

The role of a Senior Staff Nurse is to lead the nursing provision supporting the Clinical Manager, provide supervision to the nursing team and ensure the team provide the best and most diligent service to our patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Lead an MDT, supporting a caseload of patients with an allocated key nurse, a co-worker HCA andallocated MDT representatives.
  • Have an allocated lead area for the service, e.g., the management of self-harm, up-keep of the clinicroom in line with policies and procedures.
  • To ensure that the highest standard of evidence-based nursing care is delivered to all patients andtheir families,
  • To act as patient advocate, ensuring privacy, dignity and confidentiality are met,
  • To report any issues that are identified by patients or their relatives on a timely basis,
  • To ensure a high standard of infection control and the prevention of all avoidable healthcareassociated infections,
  • To administer all drugs and medications as per the local policies and procedures,
  • To report to the lead nurse any nursing issues of significance or concern,
  • To ensure that all policies, procedures, guidelines and work instructions that relate to nursing arefollowed,
  • To maintain sound and effective working relationships and communication with all hospital staff andconsultants,
  • To maintain an appropriate standard of confidentiality. Any disclosures of confidential information(including personal information kept on computer or other media) made unlawfully outside the propercourse of duty will be treated as a serious disciplinary offence.
  • Ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Children Act arefulfilled, as applicable.
  • Supervise and manage a group of nurses and HCAs within your team.
  • Ensure own monthly clinical supervision and undertake supervision of the nurses within the team.
  • Ensure own annual appraisal is completed with Lead Nurse and complete appraisals of nurses andHCAs with your team.
  • To attend Organisational meetings and functions, as required
  • To ensure the wards comply with all health and safety requirements and that appropriate policies andprocedures are adhered to.
  • To ensure the safety of all members of staff, visitors and patients
  • To ensure that all near-misses or non-compliances are reported, and appropriate actions taken, asrequired
  • To ensure that all provision of nursing care is documented on a timely basis and accurately reflects the patient experience
  • To undertake risk assessments and participate in Health & Safety audits, as required.
