Job summary
As the Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will work alongside and under the direction of a qualified Occupational Therapist and be involved in practical aspects of implementing and monitoring standardised and non-standardised assessments and outcome measures. You will support with the facilitation of groups and 1:1 sessions as directed by the Occupational Therapist and undertake routine administrative and clerical duties as required
Main duties of the job
Clinical:
- Support patients to access the local community for both recreational and therapeutic needs
- Be involved in patient meetings addressing concerns and compliments of patients
- Support the Occupational Therapist with the facilitation of a carers forum
- Support the Occupational Therapist with ensuring Occupational Therapy approaches are evidence based for the setting
- Communicate effectively with other members of the Occupational Therapy team and other health professionals to ensure clinically-relevant information is received accurately and in a timely manner
- Ensure records/documentation are maintained to required standard and report accurately when providing feedback to others
- Understanding of barriers to communication and ways to communicate effectively with service users
- Develop therapeutic rapport with service users to maximise therapeutic potential
- Provide and receive complex or sensitive information using tact, reassurance and motivational skills.
- Give consideration to, and have an understanding of, barriers to understanding, for example, a persons mental state or learning disability
- Support patients with leave planning
- Support patients in making appropriaterecreational choices to support health and wellbeing
- Liaise with the Nursing team regarding any day to day issues
- Attend MDTs on behalf of the Occupational Therapist and feedback progress and monitoring changes
- Liaise with the Nursing colleagues and other health care professionals as required regarding patient needs and progress

Schoen Clinic York is a highly specialised Hospital for adults in the North of England. We are currently based on the ground floor of Minster Grange as an eating disorder hospital, and in September 2024 will be expanding to cover the full building with other service lines including Dementia care. We are situated just off Haxby Road which is 10 minutes drive from York Train Station and 4 miles from the A64.
