Paramedic Practice Educator & Clinical Lecturer

Job summary

This exciting new role of Paramedic Practice Educator and Clinical Lecturer combines clinical and leadership time as part of our ambulance operations, alongside dedicated teaching time within our Education and Training team. The educational role will see successful applicants appointed to the position of Associate Clinical Lecturer in Paramedic Apprenticeships. Under the direction of the University of Cumbria applicants will be responsible for aiding in the delivery of the educational elements and provide pastoral duties of the paramedic apprenticeship. This role will involve occasional travel to the University of Cumbria however will be primarily based at the brand new ECS Headquarters (some travel may be required to locations within the region. Travel will be covered).

Recruitment is dependent upon successful recruitment by the University of Cumbria to the lecturer role. The job roles will be split with 0.5 WTE spent on frontline ambulance and clinical leadership duties, and 0.5 WTE seconded to the University of Cumbria in the role of Clinical Lecturer. The dedicated time to this secondment is flexible however will likely comprise a mix of dedicated block secondment followed by a regular weekly split of duties.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure that ECS clinical standards are met and exceeded at all times, making effective clinical decisions within guidelines and ECS policies & procedures

Educational Delivery

  • Teach and support paramedic apprenticeship cohorts in line with University of Cumbria criteria

  • Responsible for working with all ambulance clinicians within ECS to support and mentor their clinical progression and portfolio completion.

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in developing and delivering high quality academic provision through implementation of teaching and learning, widening participation and other strategies in order to contribute to the provision of high quality learning and opportunities and the best possible student experience

  • Support learner in practice to build relationships with partner organisations

  • Engage in scholarly activity and transfer knowledge via various methods (practical, group tutorials, lectures)

  • Ensure that all content and methods of delivery meet the desired learning objectives

  • Participate in course development, seeking ways to improve performance through self-reflection and feedback

  • Use listening, interpersonal and pastoral care skills to deal with sensitive issues concerning students and provide support

  • Act as a mentor for students in the capacity of personal tutor, highlighting those who require additional support and putting in place relevant support structures.

  • Use your advanced driving skills to respond to medical emergencies

  • Safely transfer patients to and from ambulances, using specialist equipment and manual handling skills

  • Work alongside other ECS clinicians responding to a range of ambulance activities
