Job summary
This exciting new role will allow successful candidates to directly join the Paramedic Apprenticeship programme through the University of Cumbria (UoC), hosted by ECS in partnership with South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS). Upon successful recruitment on to the programme, students will enter on to the 2 year full time Paramedic Science (degree apprenticeship) programme. Further details of the course can be found at https://www.cumbria.ac.uk/study/courses/apprenticeships/paramedic-science-apprenticeship/. Throughout the course, your role with ECS will be as a Student Paramedic, with a defined scope of practice as detailed in the ECS scope of practice policy.
Main duties of the job
As part of the degree apprenticeship programme, you will be required to undertake Paramedic mentored placement shifts as part of the ECS Ambulance Operations team alongside your classroom based learning. All education will be delivered in the region, most likely at our brand new HQ and Education Centre (Nursling), led by ECS and SCAS lecturers, on behalf of the University of Cumbria.
This role will give you exposure to a variety of service environments that will contribute to your professional and clinical development. You will work under supervision of a registered healthcare professional to provide care, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and movement of patients in and out of hospital in emergency and non emergency situations across a wide range of patient groups to develop you and give you the skills and underpinning knowledge to work as a Paramedic.
As part of your employment with ECS as a Student Paramedic, you would be eligible to undertake overtime shifts. This would be at the role of Emergency Care Assistant (see ECS Scope of Practice Policy) and would not count towards the Apprenticeship placement hours.
Potential applicants must meet the minimum requirements for entry on the programme, and employment is subject to successful interview by both ECS and UoC. Starting date for the apprenticeship is October 2023.
