Pre-operative Assessment Senior Nurse

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Pre-operative Assessment Senior Nurse to join our Ward team based in Hemel Hempstead. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary plus benefits.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include to:

Participate in the delivery of high standards of care to patients and their families. Take responsibility for the pre-operative anaesthetic and medical assessment of patients undergoing surgery who will be requiring a Local Anaesthetic, Sedation and General Anaesthetic. They will ensure that all necessary investigations and results are collated for the patients’ admission. They will take responsibility for their own self-development helping to provide a suitable learning environment and high standards of clinical practice.

Recognise own limitations and seek advice and support from Line Manager.

Contribute towards the management of the Pre-assessment/department and Ward when required to do so.

Deputise for the Ward/Pre-assessment Sister as and when required.

Provide professional leadership and support.

Act as a role model at all times and contribute to the provision of nursing expertise and specialist knowledge within the area of practice.

Actively promotes practice and educational development at ward/departmental level.

Act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

For Clinical Roles:

The successful candidate will be expected to work on a shift basis, working 37.5 hours per week over a 7 day rota during the hospital operating hours. The rota is not fixed, is subject to change in order to meet operational needs and will be required to work weekends and bank holidays in accordance with the rota.

  • Able to work independently and prioritise patient caseload and POA workload.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to effectively communicate with patients/relatives/carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team
