Job summary

To assist the qualified radiographers with their day to day duties and to provide patient support for patients attending the imaging department at OSD Healthcare.

The post requires a flexible approach to working days/hours to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

Working to set standards and protocols, functioning in accordance with best practice and in a manner that meets professional, departmental, and legal standards and requirements.

Support the Imaging Department teams providing caring, technical, and clerical duties.

Providing reassurance to patients using the services of the Imaging Centre

Providing information to patients about their examination

Conducting screening safety checks with patients prior to examination to ensure their suitability for imaging examinations and to ensure that contraindications are brought to immediate attention of the Radiographer responsible for supervising the patient’s examination

Escorting patients to and from the changing areas and in and out of the scanners/x-ray room/ultrasound room

Chaperoning patients where required, having undertaken all Safeguarding and Child Protection training

Entering data on the Patient/Radiology Information system (RIS/PIS), data sharing and image distribution using picture archive (PACs), Image Exchange Portal (IEP) and other associated systems

Supporting visiting Consultants and patients attending OSDH clinics and the Diagnostic Imaging Department

Assisting Consultant Radiologists with ultrasound lists.

Participation in a range of administrative duties including, but not limited to, contacting patients regarding upcoming diagnostic procedure and the running imaging-based clinics e.g. One Stop Breast clinic and MSK guided injection lists.

Providing physical and emotional support to patients throughout their attendance

Assisting Interventional Procedure Lead and the Radiographers with the development and implementation of workflow/process improvements in their area

Ensuring accurate clinical records are maintained

Supporting Consultant Radiologists in the use of PAS/RIS and PACs systems

Monitoring and maintaining laundry supplies

Ensuring patients who have had procedures requiring ‘nil by mouth’ are offered refreshment before leaving the clinic

Working collaboratively with other departments within OSDH.

To respond to requests for assistance in cleaning bodily fluids ensuring all protocols and procedures are following in relation to management of waste and infection control.

Taking reasonable care of the health and safety of anyone who may be affected by actions and omissions at work, ensuring all statutory and other requirements are complied with

Remaining aware of responsibilities for infection prevention and control, ensuring all infection prevention and control policies and procedures are complied with.
