ABOUT THE ROLE
Mansfield North PCN is seeking an experienced Paramedic to work collaboratively with other Primary Care healthcare professionals to provide a holistic approach when assessing and managing patients conditions and illnesses.
PICS are supporting our team of Paramedics to develop their skills and knowledge in line with NHSEs First Contact Practitioners & Advanced Practitioners in Primary Care (Paramedic): A Roadmap to Practice.
You will be part of a wider team of PICS Paramedics and supported by our Paramedic Clinical Lead who is on the PICS management team.

Mansfield North PCN is made up of 6 practices and covers a population of approximately 60,000. Main duties of the job
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing and treating patients presenting with common illnesses
- Visiting elderly and frail patients in their homes and within care home settings
- Using advanced clinical skills to provide education to patients and/or their carers so they can make informed choices about treatment
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Registered experienced Paramedic with an active HCPC professional registration
- First Contact Practitioner qualification or willingness to undertake and successfully obtain this qualification

JOB SUMMARY:
The role will provide a First Contact Practitioner (FCP) Paramedic resource for healthcare professionals and service users within the PCN, working in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team
To work within the community as an autonomous, accountable FCP Paramedic in the provision of a holistic approach for individuals including assessment, management and treatment and to deliver high quality patient services
To assess, manage, treat, refer and/or signpost patients who attend the GP surgery with undifferentiated or undiagnosed conditions relating to common illness or minor injury
The post holder will use advanced clinical skills to provide education to service users, promoting self-care and empower them to make informed choices about their treatment
JOB RESPONSBILITIES:
- Managing and treating patients presenting with common illnesses
- Triage and treat patients wishing to see a healthcare professional, making any necessary referrals to other members of the primary healthcare team
- Make appropriate referrals to secondary care but discussed with the registered GP before making such a referral if required
- Ensure clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of competence and acknowledge own limitations
- Advise patients on general healthcare and common ailments with referral to other members of the primary and secondary healthcare team as necessary
- Work from the surgery and within communities/doing home visits as an autonomous practitioner caring for patients and families
- Work as an autonomous practitioner in accordance with the Health and Care Professions Council. Ensure that personal and professional clinical standards are maintained
- Undertake assessment for patients within the community and those attending the surgery, using diagnostic skills and initiation of investigations where appropriate
- Prescribe/issue medications ( if qualified to do so ) following policy, Patient Group Directions, local and national clinical guidelines and local care pathways
- Formally and informally impart knowledge and skills to colleagues, promoting peer review and best practice within the work environment
- Communicate at all levels within the team ensuring an effective service is delivered
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous healthcare records appropriate to the consultation
- Deliver evidenced-based care at the highest standards ensuring high quality patient care
- Work within local policies and procedures
- Enhance own performance through Continuous Professional Development (CPD) using this knowledge to meet the needs of the service
- Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development in order to meet the needs of the service

- Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs etc if required. Perform investigatory procedures needed by patients and those requested by the GPs
ADMINISTRATION AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSBILITIES:
- Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
- Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date with accurate details recorded and amended
- Ensure appropriate items of service claims are made accurately, reporting any problems to the practice administrator
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice
- Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports and audit
- Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
- Restocking and maintenance of clinical areas and consulting rooms
TRAINING AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:
- Training requirements will be monitored by yearly appraisal and will be in accordance with PCN and PICS requirements
- Personal development will be encouraged and supported by the PCN and PICS. It is the individuals responsibility to remain up to date with recent developments
- Participate in the education and training of students of all disciplines and the introduction of all members of the PCN team where appropriate
- Maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development
