Salaried GP at Hamdon Medical Centre

Symphony Healthcare Services Limited

The closing date is 18 May 2025

Job summary

Exceptional opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic GP to join our forward thinking, responsive and friendly team practice in Stoke Sub Hamdon, Somerset, with 4 sessions available for a fixed term contract.

Our practice list is about 5,000 patients, so small enough for you to know our patients well and provide continuity of care, but were also part of Symphony, the largest provider of NHS GP services in Somerset, so benefit from the experience and learning across a network of 19 practices. We have an experienced and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team, including health coaches and medicines management.

We are a small, country practice in a semi-rural village location, yet with the support of a network of practices behind you so you can concentrate on patient care.

We have fast links to London, Bristol, Exeter and Bath by rail or road. In close proximity are Bristol, Bournemouth, Southampton and Exeter International Airport linking Somerset to the world.

Stoke Sub Hamdon is situated 5 miles west of Yeovil and is nestled under Ham Hill Country Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The village is just a 30 minute drive away from the coast. Stoke Sub Hamdon has a small town community feel with lovely local village schools and excellent private and state schools in close proximity.

Main duties of the job

You would undertake all the clinical duties associated with a GP working in primary care, without the responsibilities and risks associated with being a partner.

The post holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

All GPs working for Symphony are paid as Employees, which means less risk for you and more time to focus on patient care. We put patients first, with our Employed and Consultant GPs focussing on continuity of care and working flexibly according to need. You will be able to contribute to areas such as QOF, QI, training and research projects providing a huge amount of variety to the role. Our Salaried GPs have a clearly defined job plan setting out the hours of work and responsibility and tasks associated with the role.

Through annual appraisal, we encourage career development and progression and are keen to support GPs who wish to extend their role, or have specialist skills which can be utilised in primary care.

About us

Symphony Healthcare Services was established in 2016 as part of the award-winning Symphony Programme Vanguard, developing new models of care. We now provide NHS services in 19 GMS and PMS practices across Somerset and Devon, providing care for 134,000 patients.

Symphony has developed a model where each practice is encouraged to operate autonomously, but as a subsidiary of Yeovil Hospital and with the backing and economies of scale from a central support team (particularly for HR and strategic management matters).

Providing NHS services is at the heart of what we do. Our vision is to ensure that primary care is sustainable for patients and practices in Somerset, and we aim to be a national exemplar for primary care provision. We work closely with our practice teams to support, develop and transform patient care and working practices with innovation and technology at the heart of what we do.

By working at scale in primary care in Somerset we can offer you the opportunity to develop specialist skills with the support of a larger organisation to develop your GP career.

Key benefits:

  • flexible roles and working options
  • access to an organisation wide GP Mentorship Programme
  • freedom to join our new in house GP locum agency, Symphony Flex, with additional competitive pay rates
