Job summary
At Hanham Secure Health, we truly care about making a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable, traumatised and marginalised people within our society, and to care for those that many others have written off.
The time in prison is often the only chance for us to address the physical and mental health needs of these people. It’s a chance to improve their overall wellbeing and to set them on the right track to manage their own health in future.
Here are just some of the areas that our GPs support:
- Long-term condition management
- Sexual health screening & contraceptive services
- Screening & management of BBVs
- Substance misuse prescribing
- MDT working with substance misuse & mental health teams
- Complex pain management
- Management of self-harm and other acute injuries
As a GP working for HSH, you can expect:
- Protected time for clinical teaching and regular peer support forums
- An allocated mentor to provide formal and informal support
- Opportunities for funded learning, e.g. RCGP Drug Misuse
- Opportunities to take on clinical leadership responsibilities, with protected time and pay enhancement
- Option to sign up to a lucrative OOH GP rota (up to 6 weeks per year being the on-call GP for three South Glos prisons)
Main duties of the job
We welcome GPs at any stage of their career, including newly qualified. At Hanham Secure Health, we pride ourselves on being able to offer roles and employment opportunities tailored to individuals, and on providing our GPs the appropriate level of training, support and mentoring they want/need. No two patients are the same, and so we treat each patient as a unique individual - we apply this same approach to our employees through excellent leadership, extensive wellbeing resources and endless learning opportunities.
We look to agree a package that suits you; whether that be practice work only, secure work only, or a mixture of both. And this is not set in stone; you can tweak and change your package as you find your feet.
So, whatever it is you're looking for, we're ready to listen to you; we're ready to hear you; and we're ready to find the right package for you.
The secure environments in which we work include four adult male prisons, one adult female prison, a secure children’s home and a secure mental health unit. These sites sit across Bristol and South Gloucestershire, with the exception of one prison that sits within Wiltshire.
More information about the secure sites is available on our website - hanhamsecurehealth.co.uk
