Job summary
Assist in the ordering and management of retail medicines and products within the Outpatient Pharmacy, working collaboratively with pharmacy staff under the guidance of the Pharmacy Manager. Support the identification of potential issues in medicine administration, including drug interactions, newly prescribed medications, and factors affecting patient compliance. Contribute to delivering a high-quality, timely outpatient service and ensure the safe, accurate dispensing of prescriptions. Provide patients with advice on medicine use and general health within your competence, referring to a pharmacist when necessary. Handle completed prescriptions under the supervision of the Responsible Pharmacist, offering feedback on patient queries or information provided. Maintain proper storage conditions for retail products to ensure safety and compliance.
Main duties of the job
The Pharmacy Counter Assistant supports the delivery of a patient-focused pharmacy service by ensuring efficient retail operations and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures. Key responsibilities include assisting with medicines management, covering selection, procurement, storage, and safe disposal, while maintaining compliance with health, safety, and confidentiality standards. The role involves providing advice on medicines and general health within competence, issuing prescriptions under pharmacist supervision, and promoting effective communication among staff. Financial duties include monitoring stock levels, reviewing demand, and reporting discrepancies. The post holder contributes to quality assurance, risk management, and governance through audits, policy reviews, and adherence to equality and diversity principles. KFM is looking for a motivated Pharmacy Counter Assistant to join our Outpatient Pharmacy team at Denmark Hill. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a service that reinvests in the NHS and supports world-class patient care.
About the Role
As a Counter Assistant, you will play a key role in delivering a safe, efficient, and patient-focused pharmacy service. Working closely with pharmacists and other team members, you will ensure prescriptions are dispensed accurately and provide advice on medicines and general health matters within your scope of practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the ordering, storage, and management of retail medicines and products.
- Issue completed prescriptions to patients under the guidance of the Responsible Pharmacist.
- Provide advice on medicines and health-related queries, referring to a pharmacist when necessary.
- Maintain stock levels and ensure products are stored appropriately.
- Support the development and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Contribute to a high-quality outpatient service and promote excellent customer care.
About You
- GCSEs in English, Maths, and Science (Grade AC) or equivalent.
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in a hospital or community pharmacy setting.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and as part of a team.
- Comprehensive IT and retail till skills.
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis, including flexibility to meet service needs.
Additional Requirements: Enhanced DBS check required.
