Job summary

Key Purpose Take responsibility for a delegated category or categories having an influenceable value of circa ten million to twenty million pounds of annual expenditure. Foster a highly professional and responsive client service approach and act as the main point of contact. Implement strategic sourcing and strong stakeholder management to maintain the lowest costs and strengthen existing relationships with key suppliers. Review, and negotiate, and re- negotiate and draft contracts for cost optimisation and deliver savings targets to support the performance improvement programme. Implement change and improvements and support and enable staff to deliver, enhance expertise and build procurement capability.

Own work plan in place to meet strategy needs Cost reduction targets and delivery plan achieved Savings Increase in purchase order expenditure which is managed by contracts. Clear accurate specifications with lifetime costing methodology through evaluation criteria. KPIs in place to measure progress against targets Category Management up to date with identification and action on new categories All Contracts to be 100% compliant and stored using online contracts database All online product catalogues are accurate and up to date.

Role Overview

As a Category Manager at KFM, you will manage a delegated category within a portfolio with an influenceable annual spend of £10-£20 million. You will lead strategic sourcing initiatives, forge robust supplier relationships, negotiate high-value contracts, and deliver substantial cost savings aligned with our performance improvement goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Category & Supplier Management: Develop category work plans, execute operational sourcing programs, and ensure all contracts are fully compliant and catalogued.
  • Strategic Procurement: Lead tender processes, providing expert guidance on commercial and contractual issues.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary contact for your categories, fostering a proactive client service approach.
  • Cost Optimization: Drive savings targets through rigorous contract negotiation and management, aligning with cost improvement programs.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Introduce and implement innovative sourcing solutions to enhance value and efficiency.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Education: Degree or equivalent experience, MCIPS qualification desirable.
  • Procurement Expertise: Extensive experience in category and contract management, UK Public Procurement, and competitive tenders.
  • Contract Negotiation: Proven success in negotiating large-scale contracts and achieving cost savings.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with a particular emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
