Job summary

Health Innovation KSS are seeking to appoint a Director of Digital Data & AI to help Health Innovation KSS become a leader in Digital, Data & AI innovation across the region and nationally.

Main duties of the job

You will be instrumental in growing our work with the SDE (Secure Data Environment) as well as responding to demand from systems partners to help them grow their understanding and usage of digital and AI technologies in a responsible fashion.

Kent Surrey Sussex AHSN (trading as Health Innovation KSS) is one of 15 HINs set up by NHS England in 2013 and relicensed from April 2018 to operate as the key innovation arm of the NHS.

Our work is all about transforming lives through innovation. We aim to improve the health and wellbeing of all citizens within our communities and contribute to a vibrant local economy.

Covering an area with a population of 4.8 million people, and a health and social care workforce of over 200,000 people, we seek to understand the needs of our health system and be well placed to broker innovative solutions. We develop projects, programmes and initiatives that reflect the diversity of our region and healthcare challenges.

Health Innovation KSS is commissioned by the Office for Life Sciences (OLS), NHS England and NHS Improvement, to deliver a programme of work which underpins the acceleration, creation and adoption of health innovations. Our aim; to deliver improved outcomes for the population and generating economic growth, regionally and nationally with helping to enable companies/innovators to scale and create new jobs and investment.

Hybrid/remote role Health Innovation KSSs primary office is in West Sussex, with other satellite offices in East Sussex and Surrey. The successful candidate is expected to be based in or be able to attend meetings in the Southeast region and London.

Key responsibilities of the role

  • To be a champion/expert in Digital data and AI both internally and externally leveraging wider team members in systems as well as across other parts of Health Innovation KSS and embed greater knowledge and awareness generally. The position will be critical to the future, successful trajectory of the company and will be required to cover the following:
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive digital, data and AI strategy that aligns with the organisations goals and objectives. Lead digital and data projects, prioritise requirements, and generate funding. Ensure transparent communication with the senior management team.
  • To better market and promote the regions digital & data assets and knowledge locally and nationally/internationally to public/private sector organisations interesting in working with or utilising these assets
  • Technology Oversight: Stay abreast of emerging digital technologies and AI trends, ensuring the organisation leverages cutting-edge tools and practices.
  • Project Management: Lead digital transformation projects, including AI implementations, digital marketing initiatives, and data analytics efforts.
  • Team Leadership and Management: Manage, motivate, develop and mentor a team, including data analyst/scientists and programme manager. To act as a figurehead and be responsible for presenting at external conferences and events
  • Budget Management and Income Generation: Responsible for P&L, overseeing the budget for digital and AI initiatives, ensuring cost-effective solutions and ROI for technology projects.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with other teams and stakeholders to understand their needs and ensure digital and AI projects align with broader business objectives.
  • Data Management: Develop strategies for data collection, management, and analysis to drive business insights and decision-making.
  • Compliance and Security: Ensure digital and AI systems comply with relevant regulations and standards and maintain robust security practices to protect data and technology assets.
  • Performance Metrics: Establish and track KPIs to measure the effectiveness of digital and AI initiatives, adjusting as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
