Job summary

We are currently recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Gynaecology / Urogynaecology Department) for our prestigious private hospital the Cromwell Hospital. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work together with the Matron as a professional resource to the multi-professional team, patients, and carers. You will be able to work independently in supporting and advising patients and provide specialist / expert level planning, co-ordination, and delivery of evidence-based care for female inpatients and outpatients with urology and gynaecological conditions.

Main duties of the job

  • To act autonomously using advanced decision-making skills in the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team and support changes in management of care where necessary

  • To ensure all gynaecology and female urology activities are carried out with complete adherence to clinical compliance, regulatory standards, policy, and guidelines and to act as a clinical role model.

  • To provide support and advice to patients / carers / relatives and specialist guidance to consultants, nurses, and the multidisciplinary team.

  • Act as a central contact point for patients, families, and carers receiving urology or gynaecology care including cancer.

  • To support initiatives to improve service for customers and the growth of the gynaecology urology service at the Cromwell Hospital, and to support developments related to quality and consultant engagement.

  • To be responsible for the accreditation of the Cromwell Hospital as an Endometriosis Specialist Centre by the BSGE

Key objectives

To holistically provide expert level planning, co-ordination, leadership and delivery of evidence-based care, using highly specialised knowledge for in patients and out patients with Endometriosis, gynaecological and urogynae conditions and gynaecological cancers.

To act autonomously using advanced decision-making skills in the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care, for patients with complex needs and in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team and other Clinical Nurse Specialists.

To take responsibility and accountability for supporting a case load of patients through the endometriosis service. Ensuring patients are followed up at 1 week and 6 months post surgery.

To submit data on patients treated in the centre onto the BSGE database; initially and at 6 months post surgery, within clinic setting. Then at 1 year and 2 years post op by telephone or by post.

To take responsibility and accountability for supporting a caseload of patients through the cancer pathway, from suspected cancer, new cancer diagnosis, treatment and management of recurrent or advanced disease.

To act as a patient advocate and provide specialist support to patients / carers / relatives and guidance to consultants, nurses, and the multidisciplinary team.

Act as a central contact point for patients, families, and carers receiving endometriosis, gynaecology and oncology care, ensuring patients have psychological assessment and intervention as necessary, and patients care is personalised, holistic, followed up and supported.

To support initiatives to improve services for customers and the growth of the endometriosis, gynaecology / urogynae and gynae oncology services at the Cromwell Hospital, and to support developments related to quality and consultant engagement.

To be responsible for the accreditation of the Cromwell Hospital as an Endometriosis Specialist Centre by the BSGE.

A specialist practitioner with extensive experience and knowledge of caring for patients with an endometriosis, gynaecology, urogynae or gynae oncology diagnosis. They will provide specialist endometrioisis, gynaecology, oncology and urogynaecology nursing advice hospital wide to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients /clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team.

The CNS acts as a resource of clinical knowledge and expertise for patients, their careers, Health Care Professionals, and other agencies. As a specialist nurse within the hospital the CNS will initiate, participate, and contribute to service development, implementation and initiatives.

In partnership with fellow members of the gynaecology, oncology and urology teams, the post holder will develop, implement, and evaluate a seamless specialist service, ensuring that patients with endometriiosis, gynaecology, oncology and urogynaecology diagnosis receive the highest standard of clinical care and have access to the full resources of the multi-professional team whilst receiving all aspects of treatment.

The CNS will act as resource to other healthcare professionals providing themwith information on gynaecology and oncology treatments and supportive care pathways, signposting and referring to other agencies when needed. The post holder will be instrumental in developing a plan of education to support junior staff, to provide mentorship and practical experience for the attainment of high-quality patient focused care.
