Our main adult theatre is a busy and
dynamic environment, setting the benchmark for clinical excellence. We have 5
operating suites catering for Cardiac, Orthopaedics, ENT and Ophthalmic,
Plastics, General/Vascular, Urology and Gynaecology. We work with surgeons who
are the best in their specialities carrying out simple to the more complex
surgeries.
Main duties of the job
You will provide operational and clinical leadership to the theatre department, leading on and developing the service all areas of the theatre service. Managing the day to day running of the Theatre ensuring maximum use of available capacity, as well as working clinically as and when required
- Lead on and manage change and quality improvements across the department
- Working closely with Divisional Manager, will participate in the review of the service strategy.
- Own and maintain key performance indicators for the services, which monitor key outcomes, and demonstrate delivery of ambitious targets to continually improve performance.
- Ensure that all staff working within the service are clear about what is expected and are working together in successful teams to achieve the hospitals vision.
- Ability to multi-task between hands-on clinical duties if required, people management, rota management and compliance management
- Exercising the authority to resolve day-to-day management issues within the Service.
- Providing appropriate input and challenge to clinical and service corrective plans where necessary
- Provide strong visible leadership across the Theatre Suite
- Responsible for ensuring the service works within the regulatory compliance framework, including CQC directives

Provide assurace to the hospital integrated goverance forum that the service is compliant with regulatory standards including the CQC,
Ensure standards in respect of all legislative requirements, including but not limited to CQC, HSE, DSE, Fire, COSHH, BLS, Manual Handling, Safeguarding Children & Adults, Information Security, Infection Control and Blood Transfusion, are implemented and adhered to.
Ensure systems are in place and are complied with to manage professional concerns about standards of care, staffing levels and capability.
Line manage, coach and develop team members and conduct annual performance appraisals in conjunction with the Divisional Manager and that this is in line with Service strategic and organisational plans.
Encourage the development of collaborative and effective multi disciplinary teams.
Ensure appropriate communication systems are in place for involving and supporting staff within the Service.
Ensure clinical audits are conducted and support Quality and Clinical Education Lead to manage the audit process to improve patient care delivery and implement tools to improve the quality of care, ensuring that staff receive feedback and implement action as directed.
Manage the implementation of systems, control processes and risk management arrangements to support monitoring of compliance with clinical governance standards, other Hospital wide policies and processes and best practice requirements.
Manage the resolution of complaints and issues with patients, staff, suppliers, other internal and external service providers and partner organisations in a timely and appropriate manner in line with Hospital policy, procedures and service delivery values and priorities.
Support, alongside the Integrated Governance Lead, Nurse and Clinical Leads and other clinical staff, root cause analyses and trend analyses of all complaints and adverse incidents.
People Management
Act as a role model to promote an inclusive culture within the hospital, leading mission 80 intitatives for the service.
Ensure that Clinical Specialty Leads identify poor performance, manage conduct issues and provide appropriate support to individuals as required. Manage formal HR processes.
Act as a change agent and innovator, promoting an effective change culture within theatre teams.
Manage teams effectively, delegating appropriately and holding staff to account for the delivery of specific objectives and targets, maximising their performance through regular performance coaching and review, reflective practice and ensuring staff meet the required standards in their current job whilst developing their skills and knowledge
Assess needs and provide relevant support, information, advice and counselling to staff where appropriate
Undertake annual performance reviews of all direct report and establish overall goals for the service
Support recruitment and retention strategies to build and maintain a strong nursing team
Work closely with other members of the senior clinical teams to deliver the successful implementation of key initiatives as appropriate
Work closely with the Clinical Education team to manage new initiatives aimed at enhancing clinical skills within their areas

Responsible for maintaining theatre equipment register, ensuring replacement plan is up to date and initiate CER process in conjunction with Speciality Clinical Lead and Divisional Manager.
Act as an authorising signatory for capital and revenue budgets within agreed limits.
Develop a capital equipment priority list for the Service area and prepare business cases to support the acquisition and maintenance of required capital equipment.
In the absence of Divisional Manager reporting on budget positions across the Service area in delivering the accountability for ensuring internal and external financial targets are achieved.
Manage resource utilisation and expenditure against control targets.

Qualifications, experience and skills required
It is desirable that youre registered Nurse with NMC registration or ODP with the HCPC and have relevant Educated to degree level or equivalent.
