Job summary

We are looking to appoint an additional Consultant who will provide clinical leadership to the inter-disciplinary team at BIRU, offer a high quality clinical service for the management of complex neurological conditions and play an integral role in the further development of neurological rehabilitation services. The post-holder will be encouraged to maintain the close working relationship in neuro-rehabilitation and with all other colleagues in the directorate including neurology, neuropsychiatry and neurosurgery. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to both undergraduate & postgraduate teaching and the development of academic and research interests will be encouraged.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, with a special interest in Neuro-rehabilitation at North Bristol NHS Trust. This new post is based at the Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (BIRU). The BIRU is the Level 1 and 2 specialist interdisciplinary neuro-rehabilitation centre serving the South West region (29 NHSE commissioned Level 1 beds and 23 CCG commissioned Level 2 beds) The centre is a joint working partnership between North Bristol NHS Trust and the Huntercombe Group.

The post-holder will join the existing medical team of two Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine and one Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, to increase the medical staffing following a medical workforce review of the service.

It is also an exciting time locally with further rehabilitation services planned locally and regionally and Consultant colleagues in the Major Trauma Centre and Enablement Centre at NBT. The post-holder will be expected to help promote the excellent reputation of the centre and the specialty of neuro-rehabilitation within the South West and regionally. The post-holder will be part of the renowned Neurosciences Directorate at Southmead Hospital, taking advantage of the strong clinical and academic links that exist. Southmead Hospital is a new 850 bed, state of the art hospital which opened in 2014, and is the receiving trauma centre for the South West.

About us

Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (BIRU) offers Level 1 and 2 services for patients with complex neuro-rehabilitation needs in the South West of England. The service expanded to 52 beds in September 2016 and provides highly specialist inpatient rehabilitation for patients with brain injury and other neurological conditions, in a purpose built environment. The service is run by The Huntercombe Group in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust.
