We have an opportunity for a Practice Based Educator to join their team of staff in the Nursing department.

This is a part time role for 22.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Registered General Nurse, Part 1 on NMC register or registered practitioner on the HCPC.
  • Teaching / education (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or Masters) and mentoring qualification.
  • Sound theoretical knowledge.
  • Demonstrates evidence of professional development.
  • Knowledge of NMC and HCPC Codes and guidelines.
  • Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.
  • Experience of teaching and educating staff
  • Experience in Practice Education desirable

Duties of this role include:

  • Complete Annual Educational Audit and prepare relevant reports with Senior Nursing teams.
  • Develop mechanisms for the support of mentors and assessors to effectively undertake their roles to meet Fitness for Practice Standards.
  • Maintain a live Mentor database for site and /or cluster.
  • Provide guidance and support to Hospital managers and staff in the implementation of competencies and utilisation of the resources to support them.
  • Link closely with learning coordinator and corporate regional clinical educator to ensure alignment to corporate strategic plan and priorities and able to articulate and support them.
  • Initiate audits of nursing practice, evaluating the impact of existing and new practices to improve patient care.
  • Actively disseminate developments in healthcare practice and research findings through lectures, formal and informal teaching. 
  • Advise Senior Management Team on training and development needs for current or new clinical services. 
  • Ensure the education is in place to facilitate the safe custody and administration of drugs in accordance with local, organisational and legal requirements. 
  • Participate in the development of the hospital’s nursing and clinical strategy and the implementation of both. 
  • Co-ordinate placements, supervision, mentorship and documentation of Overseas Nursing Programmes and Return to Practice programmes according to NMC and HCPC Guidelines.

  • To be familiar with the relevant clinical governance issues and coordinate nursing practice in response to practice issues.
