We have an opportunity for a Sterile Services Technician to join their team of staff in the Decontamination department.

This is a Full Time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern rotating days and nights.

Main duties of the job

Duties of this role include:

  • To provide a first-class decontamination sterile service to the operating department, clinical departments and relevant paramedical departments in accordance with HTM 01-01
  • To assist in the provision of decontamination, checking, assembly, packing, sterilisation and delivery of medical and surgical equipment, Endoscopes and sundry items to/for the customer
  • To maintain good working relationships with all stakeholders
  • To promote and maintain Health & Safety within the department
  • To ensure that adequate stock levels are maintained in working areas.
  • To ensure processes are followed as directed by the Senior Staff and in accordance with policies and procedures

Job responsibilities

Role Purpose: • To provide a first-class decontamination sterile service to the Operating Theatres, clinical departments and relevant paramedical departments • To assist in the provision of decontamination, checking, assembly, packing, sterilisation and delivery of medical and surgical equipment and sundry items to/for the customer. • To maintain good working relationships with all customers • To promote and maintain Health & Safety within the department Core Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities: This is a responsible non-supervisory position. Duties include the receipt, checking, sorting, cleaning, sterilising, assembling, packing and despatching of medical instruments with the aim to return the instruments in a speedy and professional manner to the end user. To participate and contribute to any internal, customer, supplier or Accreditation Audit process in a professional and honest manner. • To ensure all equipment is maintained to the required standard of safety. Report any faults to Team leader/Manager. • To assist the Team Leaders in liaising with departments to ensure supply of items is maintained. • To report any problems with equipment or instruments to Team leader or Manager. • To maintain the accepted Health & Safety requirements for the protection of staff and visitors. • To ensure that the department is kept clean and tidy at all times. • To work as an active member of the SSD Team ensuring agreed standards are maintained. • To ensure that instruments and equipment processed through the unit is inspected, processed, assembled, packed and sterilised effectively in accordance with CHG Hospital Decontamination’s operational instructions to meet customer requirements. • To ensure all items are sterilised within pre-determined standards of quality. • To maintain accurate records throughout the various stages of processing. • To ensure that all processed items are correctly and clearly labelled for issue to the customer. • To ensure that all activities are in accordance with the Company’s Policy and Procedures • To attend and actively participate in departmental meetings • To assist in the induction and training of newly appointed staff • To attend all mandatory training • To be flexible to the developing and changing needs of the role and adapt accordingly • To perform any other tasks or related duties as reasonably required • Commitment to ensuring quality services are delivered to both internal & external stakeholders through continuous improvement activities. • Compliance with CHG Policies and Procedures relevant to this role, ensuring you are fully aware of your responsibilities within these policies. • Demonstrate awareness of regulatory requirements, taking appropriate action to ensure these requirements are implemented and adhered to. • To be aware of your responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
