Main duties of the job

  • File-work involves reviewing medical evidence in a written or electronic format to determine the suitability of a face-to-face assessment. Such assessments focus on how a disability affects day to day life in performing work related activities. Any brain related injuries are referred to the Medical Practitioner.
  • Provide comprehensive reports to enable decision makers at DWP to make informed decisions regarding benefit claims.
  • Deliver productivity and quality standards agreed between the Centre and the DWP and to respond positively to feedback.
  • Work unsupervised and use own initiative; understanding own limitations and requesting support when necessary or required.
  • Analyse and interpret clinical information and medical evidence and provide a professional and concise report.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and build positive working relationships with both medical colleagues and administrative support staff.

Centre for Health and Disability Assessments (CHDA) is operated by MAXIMUS, a global provider of health and employment services to a range of Public and Private sector clients.

Each year, CHDA Healthcare Professionals carry out more than one million assessments on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The purpose of the assessment is to understand how a persons disability or health condition affects their daily life. After each assessment, the Healthcare Professional produces a factual report so the DWP Decision Maker can determine a customers eligibility for benefits.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To conduct healthcare assessments and examinations and to produce concise reports for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as part of a successful integrated team
  • To deliver a high standards of quality customer service
  • To contribute to meeting key performance targets: volume of assessments, quality of assessments and customer sent home unseen.

What does the role entail?

  • To undertake a combination of filework and face-to-face assessments of customers in relation to a variety of benefits and provide a report to DWP. Filework involves reviewing medical evidence in a written or electronic format to determine the suitability of a face-to-face assessment. These assessments focus on how a disability affects a customers day-to-day life in performing work-related activities. These assessments may be recorded
  • Assessments will include Complex Neurological cases
  • To analyse and interpret clinical information and medical evidence, to provide comprehensive reports to enable decision makers at DWP to make informed decisions regarding benefit claims
  • To undertake recorded assessments where required
  • To deliver productivity and quality standards agreed between CHDA and DWP
  • To respond positively to feedback
  • To use IT software programmes to support clinical decision making when undertaking filework and examinations
  • To work unsupervised and use own initiative, however to know limitations and ask for support where necessary
  • To ensure professional practice standards and best practice are maintained in all areas of work

  • To apply professional skills and manage own professional competence and accountability, in accordance with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Code of Conduct

  • To work well as part of a multidisciplinary team, building positive working relationships with both medical and administrative support colleagues

Training, Qualifications and/or Experience

  • HCPC Registered Physiotherapist with a minimum of two years recent broad-based post registration experience
  • Registration and continuous professional development, maintained in accordance with the requirements of the HCPC
  • IT literate, with experience of using a range of software

Desirable

  • Previous experience of functional or disability assessment, and experience of clinical decision-making
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • To have completed mentoring in a clinical practice qualification, e.g. ENB 998 or equivalent
