Job summary
This opportunity is to undertake a 12 month apprenticeship programme to become a qualified Emergency Care Assistant and kick start your career in the ambulance service.
This apprenticeship includes 10 weeks initial training with 2 further return weeks within the next 12 months.
Initial training is expected to commence in September and will take place in Bristol, then following this successful completion return to Devon and Cornwall to start operationally as part of a double crewed ambulance responding to 999/ 111 or other types of call on behalf of the local NHS Foundation Trust.
You will then be able to work out of you preferred station which could currently be one of:
- Redruth,
- Plympton,
- Ivybridge,
- Okehampton,
- Honiton.
Further progression is available once experience has been gained in this position.
Main duties of the job
To undergo a 12-month apprenticeship programme to educate the apprentice in the knowledge, skills and behaviours to provide safe, effective ambulance patient care as part of the Role 1 Medical operational team working on our contract on behalf of an NHS Ambulance Service Foundation Trust responding to 999/ 111 calls or inter-facility transfers as part of a double crewed ambulance resource.

The apprentice will be expected to undertake their FutureQuals Level 3 Diploma in Ambulance Emergency and Urgent Care Support along with their Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving (& Level 2 functional skills (if required)) to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours in order to complete the 'Ambulance Support Worker' apprenticeship standard.
Duties and responsibilities:
- To deliver pre-hospital emergency care within a scope of practice defined by your level of training in a safe and effective way making referrals to senior healthcare professionals as required.
- Provide basic life support (BLS) autonomously including defibrillation, basic airway management and oxygen or delivering Advanced Life Support as part of a team.
- To complete accurate and thorough patient records in accordance with established Role 1 Medical Ltd SOPs.
-To safely administer & record medical gases in accordance with Role 1 Medical Ltd policy and SOPs as required for the immediate treatment of the sick and injured.
- To drive Role 1 Medical Ltd vehicles in accordance with the law and complete company driver related tasks as directed in Role 1 Medical Ltd policy or management direction.
- To take responsibility for your own continuing professional development and maintain a log of your CPD activity including annual ILS updates.
- To ensure you maintain the professional image associated with Role 1 Medical Ltd.
- The position requires the ability to travel to different event sites. Therefore, your own transport and a willingness to travel are essential.
