Job summary
With the announcement of new ARRS roles across the NHS, this role has the flexibility, for the right candidate, and based on performance, to progress into an ARRS role, after the initial 12 month contract.
The Digital Champion will support the embedding of existing platforms, or where appropriate support further work on more suitable platforms.
The role will be coordinating with the GP practices to understand what issues they have and work with the PCN management and IT support provider to fix identified issues.
The successful candidate will need to be knowledgeable around computer systems, especially Microsoft products (MS Office, Teams, Windows etc.).
You will need to be someone who can self-motivate, problem-solve and manage your own workload and priorities. You will need to possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships across the PCN and support other general practice digital projects.
A personable character to deliver training to PCN staff to help them understand the digital solutions is also important.
This role will be shared across 2 PCNs in Northamptonshire, looking after a total of 9 surgeries with a patient size in excess of 60k.
As this role will be remote based, but visiting all GP practices, a valid driving licence, business insurance and reliable car is essential.
Main duties of the job
- Support the adoption of new digital tools or existing system enhancements within PCN and its member practices.
- To build and improve on patients experience of accessing and use of digital tools within GP practices.
- Through the sharing of best practice, aid all to work more efficiently in the use of their digital tools.
- To increase digital collaboration with partner organisations and cross PCNs.

- The PCN Digital Champion will aid the PCN and its member practices to implement digital changes at a GP practice and PCN level. Likely areas of support would include support with online and video consultations, helping with the introduction of Shared Care Records, coordination of GP and PCN digital training, supporting GP practices with digital interaction with Care Homes, cloud based telephony, Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
- Practically, the PCN Digital Champion will help coordinate digital developments with practices, providing a local point of contact for developments. As agreed within the respective PCN, the PCN Digital Champion will take responsibility for delivery of certain digital plans.
- The Digital Champion will be expected to develop internal expertise on digital tools and services in use within the PCN and its member practices and undertake work with member practices to reduce variation.
- The Digital Champion will link with the PCN Toolkit and ensure that plans are aligned to the clinical strategy of the PCN.
- The Digital Champion will work with the ICBs PCN Support Taskforce helping to develop and implement PCN digital plans.
- The PCN Digital Champion will be expected to establish user groups within and across PCNs to share and learn expertise.
- The PCN Digital Champion will be expected to work with each member practices patient representative group to help understand patients experience of digital interaction with practices etc. The champions will be expected to help practices respond to the requests from the various patient representative groups.
