Job summary
We are looking for a motivated forward thinking GP Clinical Lead interested in leading a team of clinicians to provide high quality patient care at our Urgent Care Centre in Banbury.
The Unit operates 7 days a week from 8am to 10pm.
The service has an excellent reputation, and we are looking for an individual who will develop the service alongside our management team. The successful applicant will provide both managerial and clinical sessions and we may be able to offer opportunities to work in our other medical services.
Main duties of the job
As part of this role, you will act:
- To prioritise the provision of high-quality medical care within all units, ensuring that patients are at the heart of the service.
- To provide support and advice and develop whole system innovation in primary care pathways.
- To support the recruitment, retention, and development of staff ensuring sustainable and high-quality care.
- To provide an agreed number of clinical sessions within the UCC.
- To monitor the quality of the clinical care by undertaking systematic audit of the clinical team

- To provide medical leadership for all clinicians within the service, and advice to the operational and clinical management team.
- To be available to medical and clinical staff and be responsive to their experiences and concerns about medical/clinical standards within the UCC.
- To act as a role model for all clinical staff demonstrating and promoting the organisation and service’s core values, beliefs, and expected professional behaviours.
- Provide focused medical leadership to the clinicians working in UCC and add to the team that are already undertaking audits and supporting individuals with clinical development and performance reviews.
- Contribute to the recruitment process for new staff to the service in line with the PML Recruitment policy and procedure.
- Support and enable team members to: communicate their views about improvements; to see development as essential for personal growth; to share achievements jointly with their colleagues; to challenge, take agreed calculated risks and express dissatisfaction without prejudice.
Professional Responsibilities

- Demonstrate and implement knowledge of National and Local Health policy issues and their implications to the service.
- Develop and review existing evidence based clinical protocols/guidelines that drive clinician led interventions.

Patient and Family/Carer Experience
- To join the team that undertake investigations of complaints, concerns, incidents and near misses across the services. To ensure that learning from these investigations takes place to support continuous service improvement.
- To work with the service manager to respond constructively to patient and carer feedback with the aim of improving peoples experience of care.
- Work with patient representatives where possible to co-produce future services so that the meet the needs of the populations we serve.
Quality Assurance
- To be responsible for the running of the service clinical governance meeting.
- Review and disseminate new NICE guidance and safety alerts as needed.
- Attend the PML governance group and represent the service.
- Report and investigate complaints/untoward incidents through the PML Complaint / Risk Management process in liaison with the PML Medical Director and Operational Manager.
- Oversee the service’s Audit and Quality Improvement Programme to inform continued improvement and performance of the service for clinical staff and patients
- Proactively support CQC outcomes and compliance in the delivery of the service.
Education
- To provide guidance and leadership for the educational sessions provided by the service.
- To assist in the induction of new clinicians to the service.
Service Delivery
- To work with the clinical and management teams in ensuring that all units provide consistent care to patients using the service.
- Be an active member of the clinical leads team and attend the clinical leads meetings.
- Participate in prescribing and medicines management initiatives including leading prescription audits, advising on local formulary and medicines advice.
- Work with the team to ensure that the service is working within national and local regulatory frameworks, including the CQC.
Service Development
- Work with system partners (local Acute Trusts, local practices, 111) to ensure the service develops and continues to achieve its aim of adding value to the local health economy.
- Work closely with the Medical Director to develop the service in agreement with the Commissioners. This may include a skill mix review and expansion of staffing resource.
- Work with the service manager to develop innovative ways of working.
- To ensure that the UCC is developed to meet the needs of the local population.
Clinical Work
- As part of their job plan, the post holder will be required to undertake on average of 2 management sessions and a minimum of 2 clinical sessions / week.

It is expected that the post holder will:
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Operational manager for the UCC.
- Attend relevant training and meetings to ensure that links are maintained with local user groups including locality groups, acute medical groups/meetings.

- Attend where relevant, whole system meetings to support and develop service model.
