This role is based within our Specialist Ventilator Unit which offers care and treatment for people who need ventilator support in a specially designed environment.

Our multi-disciplinary team made up of a specialist consultant, nursing staff and a range of therapists, cares for people with complex needs on both a short-term or longer-stay basis. The service is supported by a specialist consultant from the Lane Fox Unit, the largest complex home ventilation and weaning centre in England.Extensive knowledge of tracheostomy ventilation is essential to this role.

The Charge Nurse will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high standard of care to the patient and residents of the hospital. You will be an essential member of the ward and will work alongside an interdisciplinary team to provide clinical oversight and nursing leadership.

We will provide you with specialist training and on-going education support. We offer comprehensive induction programme with supervision and support from our dedicated clinical education team. Your on-going career development.

We are looking for candidates with Significant Experience in:

  • Long Term invasive mechanical ventilation/ Intensive Care/ Respiratory Weaning and Rehabilitation
  • Tracheostomy care and Management
  • Shift management experience
  • Evidence on-going professional development

Main duties of the job

  1. Demonstrate an awareness of RHNs objectives and contribute to achieving them appropriately.
  2. Strive to improve and offer excellent standards of safe, clinical care.
  3. To actively contribute to creating a culture where quality is at the centre of everything we do and is delivered on all occasions to the highest level, in accordance with the appropriate CQC regulations and professional standards including the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code.
  4. To deliver a high standard of care to the patient and residents of the hospital.
  5. To assess patients care needs and to develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
  6. Participate in managing nurses and nursing services.
  7. To provide support to the Ward Sister and Matron for the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will work within agreed nursing standards and according to Nursing and Midwifery Council Code for nurses and be accountable for nursing outcomes.
  • Participate in managing nurses and nursing services by organising the duty rota and patient allocation, anticipating requirements when clinical activity increases/decreases, assisting in forward planning of absences and the effective use of temporary staff ensuring correct grade and skill mix are in place to deliver care and in accordance to agreed establishment figures as directed by the Ward Manager.
