Job summary
NUPAS are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Doctors to join our clinical team. This is an excellent opportunity to increase your knowledge and skills in Abortion Care, Sexual Health and Contraception provision in the UK.
To complete pre-treatment consultation and assessment of patients requesting an abortion and post-treatment care inclusive of abortion in a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will be providing both face to face consultations as well as telemedicine.
Hours are negotiable - Full and part-time roles available.
Hybrid working may be an option after successful completion of approximately four weeks face-to-face training which will be clinic-based.
GMC registration is essential
Main duties of the job
Review patient medical history and check suitability for Early Medical Abortion medication and contraception including LARCs. Also provide assessment for post-abortion problems.
Contact patients by phone when requiring more medical information, reviewing and assessing if a patient is suitable for telemedicine.
Document on patient notes the complication rates and potential risks associated with treatments.
Contact patients by phone for post-treatment triage calls to discuss complications and prescribe appropriate treatment and book appointments.
Review post-treatment patient notes when they attend post-operative appointments in clinics throughout NUPAS.
For patients below the age of 16, ensure the patient has sufficient understanding and ability to give valid informed consent.
Ensure that a record of the consultation, pre-treatment assessment and consent is made in the patients notes, complete regulatory documentation.
Ascertain the grounds for the abortion, initiate appropriate referral measures when you may be concerned that the patient may be at risk. Assess the patients suitability fir a community-based abortion.
Prescribe contraception when reviewing patient notes.
Participate in and co-operate with NUPAS quality improvement projects i.e. audit activities and Clinical Governance arrangements.
Update knowledge and skills through CPD and effective annual appraisal and participate in Revalidation process as per GMC regulations.

National Unplanned Pregnancy Advisory Service (NUPAS) provide FREE pregnancy advice, counselling and abortion services, including pregnancy testing, STI screening and contraception across the North West, Midlands and South of England. Initial consultation appointments are available 7 days a week.
