Job summary

As a registered Physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council and a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy you will be required to support the Physiotherapy department in the management of the day to day running of the physiotherapy teams to ensure effective staffing levels in order to provide high quality patient care whilst meeting the needs of the business.

Work alongside the team across multiple areas which include, Inpatient Orthopaedic, ERU, and Day Care suite.

To provide highly skilled and specialised assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients within the in-patient/out-patient service.

Main duties of the job

Working alongside the rest of the team (including the wider MDT) across Wards & Outpatients unit to provide highly skilled and specialised assessment and treatment for patients.

1. Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.

3. Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.

4. Supporting the physiotherapy department to cover weekend ward work, weekday ward cover for annual leave and outpatients clinic as required.

1.Develop practice in the assessment of health and wellbeing needs.

Explain clearly to patients whose needs are being assessed how they can positively contribute to their treatment plan.

Identify peoples health needs by undertaking thorough subjective and objective assessment methods, using full physiotherapy clinical expertise.

Obtain information on patients needs within the overall context of their physiotherapy and care requirements. Follow processes of specific clinical reasoning which allows optimum outcomes to be achieved promoting their return to their chosen activity and assist team in doing so.

Interpret patient data using all of the relevant components to make an accurate clinical diagnosis. Make this information available to appropriate colleagues.

Identify and discuss with colleagues the implication of assessment against the programme of care. Enable them to think through the risks and their effective management and the need for referral to others.

Provide assessment advice and support on current evidence-based practice. This should be done proactively and on request.

2.Develop practice in addressing individuals health and wellbeing needs

Provide highly specialised advice to patients.

Develop plans of care that are appropriate to the patients that take into consideration treatment protocols, risks and their wellbeing. Compare current physiotherapy practice against appropriate benchmarks.

Develop evidence-based practice and be an exemplary role model on a day to day basis and actively participate and lead IST sessions.

Obtain informed consent prior to implementing patients plan of care.

Promote patients rights and wishes explaining to colleagues particular aspects which may be prejudiced during the process.

Enable colleagues to develop their own competence in using different interventions designed to promote recovery and return to full activity.

Transfer and apply knowledge to meet arising needs and issues explaining clearly to colleagues rationale and reasoning processes.

Discuss outcomes with colleagues to enable them to think through and critically evaluate the risks and the effective management of the patients condition. Identify the need for timely referral to others when necessary.

Accurately maintain records of personally generated clinical observations, treatment records and sales and assist team in doing so. This will allow accurate billing, budgetary and stock control within the physiotherapy department.
