Job summary

JOB TITLE: Level 1 Retail Supervisor.

HOURS OF WORK: 37 hours per week (0.99 FTE)

SALARY: Willowbrook Retail Scale RB Point 1 currently £20,330 - £21,777 pro-rata

Willowbrook Hospice is a purpose built independent hospice opened in 1997. It is an adult hospice caring for patients with specialist palliative care needs, serving the community of St Helens and Knowsley.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Willowbrook Hospice Trading Company and play a key role in sustaining the retail operations to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Willowbrook Hospice Donations Warehouse.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to support the generation of income through effective knowledge and supervision of the sale of new and donated goods, achieving the shop budget, managing expenditure and volunteers.

You will be an active team member with the ability to work on your own initiative when required. You will prioritise a busy workload and demonstrate excellent communication skills to build close working relationships with Shop Managers, staff, volunteers and customers.

About us

Suitable candidates will have relevant supervisory experience and demonstrable IT skills and knowledge (ability to utilise Microsoft Office packages; Word; Excel etc)

Successful candidates will require Health clearance.

Job responsibilities

Overall purpose of the job;

As a Willowbrook Retail Supervisor, you will be expected to support the generation of income through effective knowledge and supervision of the sale of new and donated goods, achieving the shop budget, managing expenditure and volunteers.

Based: This role will be based in the warehouse distribution centre but at times may be required at any Willowbrook Hospice Retail locations in St Helens and Knowsley.

Main Responsibilities

1. To support the staff and volunteers in receiving, sorting, distributing and displaying for sale, goods that have been donated in order to generate income for Willowbrook Hospice.

2. To support and help develop the store to achieve set targets and maximise the net financial contribution to Willowbrook Hospice.

3. Be responsible for the promotion of gift aid with all donors ensuring training and use of the Gift Aid system with all volunteers when on duty.

4. To support the recruitment of shop volunteers and with the support of the volunteer coordinators, manage volunteers utilising the Team Kinetic software, ensuring adequate staffing levels during advertised opening hours at these designated shops.

5. To ensure the ongoing training of new and existing volunteers to the required level is achieved and continually maintained.

6. To support and utilize positive social media coverage of the hospice, plus, support online sales with the online sales supervisors by providing goods where requested for the online sales platform.

7. Build positive relations with 3rd party suppliers (Bankcard Machine, BMC Azurri tills) in order to maintain these facilities in good working order.

8. To uphold expected retail standards at all times

9. To ensure that a high level of customer service is demonstrated and delivered at all times

10. To ensure compliance with all relevant legislation i.e. Health and Safety and Trading Standards whilst adhering to all Hospice policies and procedures.

11. To maintain good relations throughout the local community in order to enhance the profile and good name of the Hospice.

12. To attend and participate in Retail Supervisors meetings and training and liaise regularly with the Area Manager.

13. To hold regular meetings to ensure all volunteers are fully informed about their shop and the Hospice to ensure that they feel valued, informed and included.

14. To positively promote and sell new ideas, systems, policies and procedures to ensure a positive, can do environment.

15. Share best practise, ideas and team success within the retail organisation.

16. When necessary, agree full accountability of your designated location including open/closing, sales performance, banking processes and following all hospice and retail procedures

17. Full accountability of delivering budgeted profit & set Key Performance Indicators

  • To organise the sorting, pricing and attractive display of stock, operating an efficient stock rotation system.
  • To ensure a consistently high standard of cleanliness and display both in the sales area and none sales area.
  • To proactively recruit volunteers from the local community.
  • To support and organise effective staffing levels and duty rotas in designated location/s.
  • To inform Area Manager and/or Trading Company Manager of any issues/incidents, particularly in relation to potential Health & Safety issues.
  • To encourage the local community to donate saleable goods
  • All staff are required to complete yearly online training.
  • To ensure a consistently high level of personal appearance and standards.
  • To be a key holder for the retail location/s out of hours and carry out emergencies procedures as required.
  • To work in a professional manner at all times reflecting and maintaining the values and ethos of the organisation.
