Job summary
Beechwood are looking for a qualified /newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist who wishes to develop their skills in autism and Learning Disabilities. The post will also support training in Dysphagia as part of the role. Beechwood is a specialist residential education service providing person centred care and education for young people aged 16-25 with Autism Spectrum Conditions, learning disabilities and complex behavioural presentations.
Main duties of the job
The Speech and Language Therapy Team offer a wide range of therapy sessions as well as providing training to staff on communication systems . About us
You will join an existing multidisciplinary team involving colleagues from clinical psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychiatry, dietetics, education and residential care. Across the wider Iris Care Group, you will join a clinical services team, working across multiple specialities and disciplines, allowing for a high level of peer support and the sharing of clinical resources. We have an active internal CPD process and have active links with local universities and with local special interest groups across specialisms. The department is active in service evaluation and development, particularly in the areas of recovery focused mental health care, autism adapted evidence based therapies, person centred planning, positive behavioural support and restraint reduction, the measurement of staff cultures, and service user involvement.

Key Responsibilities:
- To work with a specialist/ complex case load which include young adults with Autism, learning difficulties and other diagnoses including behaviours that challenge
- Caseload may also include supportive dysphagia management and training as directed by specialist Speech and Language therapist, including attending identified training in dysphagia.
- To provide assessments, diagnostic and appropriate advice for students on caseload
- To plan, deliver and monitor individual and group sessions as appropriate.
- To use Total Communication Approach
- To use Voice Output Devices including iPads and tablets as a form of Alternative and Augmentative Communication
- To be part of LSHG multi disciplinary team, liaising, co-ordinating and planning work with other professionals in specific residential homes and classes.
- To encourage good liaison with other external agencies promoting positive good practice.
- To contribute advice to families as necessary.
- To attend MDTs, staff meetings, CPDs and in-service training as required.
- To provide clinical reports for initial assessment, review, CHC and LAC purposes
- To follow current administrative and statistical procedures as required by LSHG.
- To keep clinical notes as per professional guidance and standards and to present information to MDTs.
- To keep up to date with new techniques and research for the maintenance and promotion of good practice and to record same on the Professional Log of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
- To be conversant with communicating quality guidelines and ensure agreed care standards are adhered to.
- To ensure statistical information and client records are updated.
- To participate in quality assurance and clinical audits as necessary.
